Job description

The Data Governance Manager is crucial for coordinating, supporting, and driving the day-to-day data management and governance processes across Biffa. You will help refine and develop the data governance framework, supporting and implementing the necessary structures, roles, and systems to govern data effectively. Additionally, you will guide the business in actively managing their data in line with the governance framework.

Your core responsibilities

1. Ensure the data governance framework is current and aligned with business and analytics strategies. Advocate for its principles, structures, artefacts, and processes; promote, coach, and support all levels of the business. Design metrics to measure progress.
2. Engage the Data Governance team, data owners, data stewards, and Data Governance Board, ensuring effective collaboration and support of critical roles.
3. Maintain Data Objects in LeanIX, document data standards, and update data dictionaries and business glossaries across Biffa.
4. Design and implement a data quality approach, collaborating with data stewards, business, and technical experts. Manage and resolve issues via the enterprise data issues log.
5. Work with the Head of D&A and BI Teams to ensure information management practices are effective, safe, and aligned with the governance framework.
6. Develop and maintain a Master Data Management approach, collaborating with local and central teams.
7. Ensure data is governed, documented, retained, and maintained throughout its lifecycle, with change impacts documented and approved.
8. Implement enterprise data governance tools to keep data lineage, definitions, and standards current and accessible.
9. Consider training, communication, and engagement needs for all roles impacted by data governance, providing necessary technical content.

Minimum requirements

• 3–5 years experience leading a data governance program or team
• Knowledge of data standards and quality frameworks
• Experience with data lifecycle frameworks aligned to regulation
• Experience with Microsoft Purview
