Data Governance Lead
Based Manchester or York
Our client is recruiting a Data Governance Manager to be responsible for developing and overseeing data governance policies, standards, practices and implementation of these. This role ensures that data is accurate, accessible, quality assured, and used responsibly across the organisation. You will lead the implementation of data governance frameworks, manage data quality initiatives, and collaborate with stakeholders to establish data as a valuable asset that supports decision-making, compliance, and operational excellence.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Data Governance Strategy & Framework Development
- Design, implement, and maintain the data governance framework, including policies, procedures, and standards to ensure data quality, compliance, and accessibility.
- Develop and enforce a data governance roadmap that aligns with organisational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Work with senior leadership to embed data governance practices across departments, ensuring data is managed as a strategic asset.
Data Quality & Compliance
- Lead data quality initiatives, establishing standards for data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness.
- Implement data auditing and validation processes to monitor data quality and address discrepancies proactively.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, such as GDPR, and data privacy standards, maintaining policies and processes that protect sensitive information.
Data Ownership & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Build a data ownership program to appoint data owners in key areas, guiding them in maintaining data quality and governance standards within their domains.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with business and technical stakeholders to ensure alignment and accountability for data governance objectives.
- Provide training and resources to data owners and end-users, promoting a culture of responsible data use.
- Oversee the creation and management of a data catalogue, ensuring that data assets are documented, classified, and accessible for analytical and operational use.
- Implement metadata management practices to enhance data discoverability, usability, and understanding across the organisation.
- Ensure that data lineage, ownership, and definitions are maintained, enabling transparency and trust in data sources.
Continuous Improvement & Governance Reporting
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of data governance practices, implementing improvements and best practices to enhance the governance framework.
- Develop and present regular reports on data quality metrics, governance initiatives, and compliance status to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Keep up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in data governance, proposing new methods or tools to advance the company's governance capabilities.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
