The Team: the Central Data team is a passionate group of data scientists, engineers, and experts who use machine learning and data to power digital products, marketing, and advertising experiences across our brands, build innovative tools for newsrooms, and govern the effective and ethical use of data.

Our initiatives include pioneering GenAI tools, creating personalization capabilities that doubled ad revenues and increased article clicks by over 40%, and developing INCA, a suite of tools to support workflows and decision-making in newsrooms.

The team works on a modern cloud stack, including GCP and AWS, utilizing Python, deep learning frameworks, React, GraphQL, Node, and D3 for developing APIs and data visualization.

Your Role:

Re-positioning data governance as a ‘force for good’ and creating a competitive advantage, reporting to the Head of Data Enablement. You will contribute to strategy and implementation of governance, ensuring data protection while enabling ethical and effective use of data.

Responsibilities:

1. Facilitate the shift from a risk and compliance focus to a strategic business partner aligned with KPIs.
2. Communicate the value of data governance to stakeholders.
3. Contribute to the development of the Data Enablement strategy and execution approach.
4. Establish metrics to track data improvement initiatives.
5. Translate data governance principles into practical applications and stakeholder language.
6. Lead data management topics such as Data Quality, Privacy, and Protection.
7. Coordinate with Data Protection, Cyber Security, and other teams to ensure effective practices.
8. Define and implement the data governance framework, including policies and roles.
9. Conduct internal reviews on data governance maturity, reporting risks and improvements.

Candidate Profile:

• Passionate team player inspiring stakeholders on governance benefits.
• Experience implementing data governance frameworks and tools like Collibra, Informatica, Alation, or Atlan.
• Ability to tailor frameworks to specific business needs.
• Understanding of core data management practices and regulatory requirements (DPA2018, GDPR, CCPA, etc.).
• Willingness to learn and develop potential, even if not all requirements are met.
