Job description

Ideas | People | Trust

We're BDO. An accountancy and business advisory firm, providing the advice and solutions entrepreneurial organisations need to navigate today's changing world.

We work with the companies that are Britain's economic engine - ambitious, entrepreneurially-spirited and high growth businesses that fuel the economy - and directly advise the owners and management teams that lead them.

We'll broaden your horizons

To ensure our services and applications are fit for the modern market, our IT team collaborates with every department. They develop, they explore and they implement the new ideas helping us to change the future of accounting, tax and business consulting. But, just as importantly, they maintain the tech that keeps us advancing. By testing and adopting the future of financial technical solutions, they find new and exciting ways to drive us forward. And you could too. In an IT role at BDO, you'll become part of a team that act as the backbone for our business. No matter who you are or what your skillset is, we'll give you the training and support you need to achieve whatever you put your mind to.

We'll help you succeed

Leading organisations trust us because of the quality of our advice. That quality grows from a thorough understanding of their business, and that understanding comes from working closely with them and building long-lasting relationships.

You'll be someone who is both comfortable working pro-actively and managing your own tasks, as well as confident collaborating with others and communicating regularly with senior managers, directors, and BDO's partners to help businesses effectively. You'll be encouraged to identify and draw attention to opportunities for enhancing our delivery and providing additional services to organisations we work with.

The Data Governance Analyst role is part of the Data Office function and reports to the Data Governance Manager. This is a critical position to deliver on our vision, that 'Everyone at BDO is empowered with data'. You will be part of a small Data Governance team to shape and implement a data governance framework that supports efficient, compliant, and ethical data processing. Our objective with Data Governance is to enable the business to manage critical data so that it can be trusted for crucial decision-making. We adopt a value-focused approach to data governance.

In this role you'll work closely with the Data Office and the wider business to ensure the successful delivery and implementation of data governance initiatives across BDO, including data quality and understanding, data sourcing, and access. You will develop data knowledge management, including data modelling and cataloguing documentation, with the business data glossary at its core. You will also drive continuous data improvement at BDO by identifying and reporting any data risks found through data quality analysis and gaining consensus for change within the BDO system landscape and utilise your analytical expertise to provide robust root cause analysis, leading discussions to conclusion with measurable outcomes in data quality improvements.

You’ll be someone with:
  • Proven experience working as Business Analyst, Data Modelling, Data Governance Analyst, and Data Management roles.
  • Hands-on experience in preparing comprehensive documentation tailored for diverse stakeholders across business and technology sectors. Exceptional ability to articulate complex data concepts through standardized data documentation, ensuring clarity and understanding for all audiences.
  • Exceptional policy and standard writing expertise, with the ability to generate user-friendly PowerPoint presentations and other guides to deliver targeted messaging.
  • Experience with Enterprise Risk framework and operating risk and issue logs.
  • Experience in Data Governance and Data Modeling technology configuration and adoption for data cataloguing and business data glossary management (desirable Data.World, LeanIX, Purview, ER/Studio, Erwin or any other equivalent).
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in data / data management related subjects or/and professional bodies such as DAMA, BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis International Institute of Business Analysis CBAP, TOGAF or CDMP
  • Working knowledge of GDPR and similar regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex data concepts to help colleagues and business stakeholders understand data governance initiatives and the impact of poor data on day-to-day business.
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset with a logical thought process for identifying root causes to lead data improvement initiatives to successful and measurable outcomes.
  • A keen eye for detail and a passion for data definitions and cataloguing.
  • Strong project management skills to plan, monitor, and report progress of data governance projects and initiatives.
  • A familiarity with data governance tools and technologies, including data lineage, metadata management, and data quality solutions.

At BDO, we'll help you achieve your personal goals and career ambitions, and we have programmes, resources, and frameworks that provide clarity and structure around career development.
