Job description

At GSK we are looking for a highly capable senior technical builder who can design and govern the data-flows that GSK’s Research & Development (R&D) division runs on. If you believe data should move on its own and still arrive trusted, then this role could be for you. The Data Flow Lead role reports directly into the Senior Director for Data Governance, Innovation & Automated Compliance, and sits within the Data Value Office (DVO) for the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) organization of GSK’s Research & Development (R&D) function. This role is focused on delivering data-flows-as-product, compliance-as-code, and governance built into the pipeline (instead of bolted-on). You will turn scattered systems and sources into modular, reusable, end-to-end flows in one consistent format that can be used to its full potential throughout GSK’s R&D divisions. Your mission is to make R&D data visible, trusted and automation-ready (by default) so teams can decide faster and scale agentic solutions with confidence (whilst keeping the human expert in the loop).

Key Responsibilities

Manage the development of business requirements for data-flow (through collaboration with R&D business/functional leads and data platform colleagues) to translate business needs into technical data requirements and processes to ensure seamless data-flow integration and usage across the R&D ecosystem. Design, develop and maintain modular, end-to-end data-flows (spanning roles, interfaces, data and metadata, triggers and access) to integrate systems and data sources into trusted, reusable assets across R&D (including writing clean, readable code where required). Ensure data-flows support compliance-by-design; integrating, contextualising and orchestrating data and systems in line with compliance principles. Deliver pre-packaged, curated data-flows aligned to business requirements, which include documented data specifications describing processing steps required to generate each flow. Integrate diverse data-flows (eg; protocol development, Development Safety Update Report (DSUR) and clinical trial Individual Human Data (IHD)) into a unified machine readable format for consistent implementation and an end-to-end data ecosystem. Ensure deliverables are appropriately quality controlled, documented and, where required, able to be handed over to function leads and the R&D Tech team for scale implementation. This extends to quantifying and providing insights into business impact and value creation arising from data-flow activities. Coaching and peer review to ensure the team's work reflects industry best practice for data-flow creation activities, including data standards.

Basic Qualifications

Relevant degree-level education (eg; BS/MSc/PhD (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related subject). Relevant experience / knowledge of translating business needs into technical data requirements and processes, ability to quantify and provide insights into business impact and value creation from data-flow activities, and handling complex data-flow processes efficiently. Knowledge / experience of metadata ecosystems and agentic solutions. Relevant hands‑on experience with policy engines, including translating governance requirements into practical, executable Policy as Code. Relevant experience in integrating multiple data sources and systems into unified reusable data-flows ( whilst ensuring data privacy and compliance-by-design). Proficiency with a range of digital tools (eg; Auzure, GCP) and experience leveraging AI or digital technologies to improve efficiency or insights. Proficiency in a range of digital tools (eg; Azure, GCP) and experience leveraging AI or digital technologies to improve efficiency or insights.
