Job summary

Tokio Marine HCC International is seeking a Data Engineer embedded in the Underwriting Performance team to design, build and operate data pipelines on Snowflake. The role is seconded to UWP, while remaining part of the DD&E function, aligning with product priorities and engineering standards.

You will work with product, underwriters and actuaries to deliver high-quality data models, tests and governance using Medallion architecture.

Qualifications

• Substantial data engineering experience across multiple lifecycles.
• Strong experience building production data pipelines and models on Snowflake.
• Commercial experience with dbt Cloud, including models, tests and incremental strategies.
• Strong data engineering fundamentals: SQL, dimensional modelling, SCDs, Medallion architecture.
• Experience in agile teams and data product mindset.
• Stakeholder management with ability to challenge constructively.
• Experience in embedded/matrix models with shared standards.
• Experience using Git, PRs, CI/CD for data.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain data pipelines ingesting data into Snowflake.
• Build, test and document data models and data products using dbt Cloud.
• Collaborate with UWP team, underwriters, actuaries and ops to shape data requirements.
• Challenge unclear requirements and propose pragmatic alternatives.
• Promote data platform standards within the product team and governance.
• Manage scope, priorities and timelines with clear trade-offs.
• Participate in agile ceremonies and contribute to the data product roadmap.
• Ensure data quality via tests, validations and monitoring.
• Support production pipelines and resolve data issues.
• Contribute to version control, CI/CD and code reviews.
