Job summary

SBG in Bristol seeks a Data Engineer to design, build and maintain scalable data solutions supporting the underwriting function. You will develop data pipelines, integrate diverse data sources and collaborate with underwriting, pricing and data science teams to enable data-driven decision making.

The role combines hands-on data engineering with leadership development and domain knowledge to drive data capabilities across the business. Hybrid working and a strong benefits package are offered.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, with ability to build robust data solutions and automate processes.
• Experience with cloud data platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure, and exposure to AWS/GCP is useful.
• Knowledge of data orchestration tools like Azure Data Factory and data governance concepts.
• Proficiency in data warehousing, dimensional modelling and data architecture principles.
• Experience with CI/CD practices, version control (Git) and collaborative development.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines, platforms and assets for underwriting models and risk analytics.
• Enhance production data assets and deliver new data products to meet evolving analytics needs.
• Ensure data quality and governance through automated validation and monitoring processes.
• Integrate data from policy, claims, telematics and external sources for analytics-ready solutions.
• Develop data marts and semantic models to provide insights into underwriting performance and portfolio health.
• Collaborate with underwriting, pricing and data science teams to translate business requirements into data solutions.
