ROLE DESCRIPTION

The role of Data Engineer will be a key role within the STR Data Operations Team, reporting to the Director, Technical Data Operations. The Data Operations team is responsible for data acquisition, data loading, data quality, data processing, data delivery, and data support for hospitality clients. This role will focus on enhancing our internal reporting capabilities, data quality, data architecture, data acquisition, data automation, and business insights.

This role is suited for an individual with experience in building SQL queries, Python scripts, and Report Development tools (SSRS, SAP BO, Tableau, Power BI). The candidate must be proficient in working with large volumes of data, automating data loads, and understanding end-user requirements to build solutions for high-quality data analysis or reporting. Additionally, the candidate will partner with our internal IT team to assist in migrating STR’s data ingestion, storage, and consumption to the cloud (AWS) using standardized tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Build technical skills including SQL, Python, and Power BI
  2. Automate data ingestion, ensure data quality, and catalog new data sets for discovery
  3. Develop SQL procedures, functions, and views
  4. Support standard business reports
  5. Manage data warehousing
  6. Develop solutions for data analysis and addressing data issues
  7. Create solutions for ad-hoc business needs
  8. Maintain and develop SSRS reports and environments (dev, test, prod), user subscriptions, and scheduling
  9. Provide helpdesk support for internal report requests
  10. Gain comprehensive understanding of the company’s data landscape
  11. Assist in migrating existing reports during the integration project

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of SQL programming experience, including relational schema design and query optimization
  • 2+ years using Python or similar scripting languages for data science
  • Experience with data processes and building ETL pipelines
  • Experience with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, Azure Data Warehouse, Amazon Redshift, or Google BigQuery
  • Proficiency in creating visualizations using Power BI or Tableau
  • Experience designing ETL/ELT solutions with tools like SSIS, Alteryx, AWS Glue, Databricks, IBM DataStage
  • Strong analytical and technical skills
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience working closely with business users
  • Experience in the hospitality industry is beneficial
