Job summary

Searchability NS&D in Newcastle is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to design and build data-intensive applications across Defence and financial services. You’ll work on data foundations, pipelines, and sensitive data handling in production environments.

The role is on-site with potential travel across the UK. The team values strong engineering standards, collaboration, and problem-solving in complex domains.

Qualifications

• Experience designing data-intensive applications and pipelines.
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
• Experience with Spark, Databricks, cloud platforms and Airflow.
• Strong focus on data quality, testing and reliability.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals and high engineering standards.
• Strong communication and collaborative skills.
• Comfortable working with ambiguity while remaining outcome-focused.
• 1st or 2:1 degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics or related discipline.
• Defence/National Security experience advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design and build data-intensive applications and pipelines, from ingestion through to consumption.
• Test, troubleshoot and improve data quality, reliability and performance.
• Provide technical expertise across projects and client engagements.
• Work flexibly across evolving project requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers and share technical knowledge.
