Job description

Data Engineer, Non Cleared - Policing background

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Engineer with a background in policing or law enforcement to join our data and analytics team. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines and infrastructure to support data-driven decision-making across policing operations. Your understanding of law enforcement processes, systems, and compliance requirements will be vital in shaping data solutions that are secure, ethical, and impactful.

Rate: Negotiable

Duration: 6-12 Months

Location: West Midlands - twice a week onsite

Responsibilities
  1. Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines to collect, process, and transform structured and unstructured data from various policing systems.
  2. Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and operational policing units to understand data requirements and deliver appropriate data solutions.
  3. Work with ETL/ELT tools to integrate data from sources such as Niche, Athena, PNC, custody systems, and other law enforcement platforms.
  4. Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with relevant standards including GDPR, MOPI, and the Digital Policing Strategy.
  5. Optimize data storage and retrieval using cloud and on-premise technologies (e.g., Azure, AWS, SQL Server).
  6. Support data governance initiatives, including data cataloging, lineage tracking, and metadata management.
  7. Assist in the deployment and monitoring of data solutions in live environments.
  8. Troubleshoot and resolve data-related technical issues.
