Job summary

The University of Sheffield is seeking a Junior Data Engineer to join Data Connect, delivering secure data assets and research-ready datasets. You will build, validate and maintain data pipelines, turning complex health data into clean, structured resources used by researchers across regional and national projects.

You will work with Data Scientists, Engineers and Managers in a collaborative environment, following governance standards and best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Health Informatics, Data Engineering, or related field.
• Strong SQL skills including joins, aggregations, and performance tuning.
• Solid Python coding skills with a structured approach to programming.
• Interest in working with real-world health care datasets.
• Clear written and verbal communication to collaborate with researchers.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Data Connect team to deliver data asset updates and health data extracts.
• Troubleshoot data pipelines and optimize workflows for performance and reliability.
• Clean, map and standardize health datasets to OMOP CDM where applicable.
• Maintain data dictionaries and metadata for stakeholder understanding.
• Contribute to technical documentation and data governance compliance.
