  • Proficient in modern data warehousing and database development (on-premises and cloud) using SQL, NoSQL, TSQL and Python.
  • Proficient in end-to-end Power BI solutions with Power BI Cloud; Tableau knowledge valuable.
  • Experience in data engineering and regulatory application design within financial services; insurance/banking knowledge is an asset.
  • Strong Excel/VBA, ML concepts, model deployment, SDLC and Agile.
  • Data storytelling, visualisation, analysis and critical thinking; strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Job description

Data Engineer/BI Developer
Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Department

The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking the services of a skilled and capable individual to work as a Data Engineer/BI Developer in our Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Department. Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Data Engineer/BI Developer will be responsible for designing, developing and implementing a modern, scalable data management and analytics solution to assist the BMA in making effective and efficient decisions in fulfilling its prudential responsibilities.

This is a key role for the Authority and the postholder will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Designing, developing and implementing modern and scalable data management platforms (including modern data lake and enterprise data warehouse solutions as well as consolidated and modern data pipelines (ETL\ELT) to extract, aggregate and manipulate data from various sources
  • Designing, developing and implementing end-to-end Business Intelligence (BI) solutions with data semantic models and selfservice capabilities, including appealing and effective dashboards and visualisations
  • Implementing and supporting data pipelines to deploy scalable Machine Learning solutions that are sustainable in an enterprise environment
  • Implementing and supporting DataOps pipelines
  • Collaborating with and providing technical guidance to a team of data professionals to ensure high-quality delivery of data engineering and analytics projects
  • Performing other related work and special projects as assigned by management in accordance with competencies normally associated with the post

This position requires a proven technical and business background; therefore, the postholder must have:

  • A master’s degree or equivalent qualification in computer science or a related field from a recognised institution or professional body
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of related experience in developing databases, end-to-end data warehouses, data analytics and selfservice BI solutions, of which at least three (3) years should be at a senior level working within the financial services business or financial regulatory body
  • Proficient in modern data warehousing and database development (on-premises and cloud) using SQL, NoSQL, TSQL and Python to manipulate unstructured and structured data and draw insights from large and diverse data sets. Microsoft on-premises and cloud data stack are preferred
  • Proficient in designing, developing and implementing end-to-end Power BI solutions with the Power BI Cloud platform, including data collection, data transformation, advanced data modelling and out-of-the-box and custom visualisations. A good understanding of Tableau is additionally valuable
  • Experience in data engineering and regulatory application design within the financial services sector. Insurance and banking domain knowledge is considered an asset
  • Strong technical understanding of Excel/VBA, machine learning concepts, model deployment, software development life cycle practices and Agile methodologies
  • Skilled in data storytelling, visualisation, analysis and critical thinking, with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while fostering collaboration, team alignment and best practices in data engineering and analytics
