Job summary

Grant Thornton in Belfast is seeking a Data Analyst at Associate Director level to lead data insights for industry-leading clients. The role combines hands-on analytics with team leadership, delivering powerful visualisations and actionable recommendations.

You will design data models, partner with stakeholders, mentor a team of analysts, and contribute to business development. The position is hybrid, with client-site attendance as required.

Qualifications

  • Degree in a quantitative field (Data Science, Statistics, Maths or CS).
  • Minimum 8 years of professional Data Analysis experience.
  • Proficiency in SQL, R or Python and data visualization tools.
  • Experience leading and mentoring data teams and communicating insights clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, validating and transforming data for analysis.
  • Creating dashboards and visualisations with Power BI/Tableau/Excel.
  • Collaborating with clients to gather requirements and translate insights into actions.
  • Producing technical docs including design specifications and workflows.
  • Utilising Power Query, Power Automate and VBA to automate processes.
  • Leading workshops and meetings to understand client needs.
  • Managing multiple workstreams and timely delivery of outputs.
  • Supporting business development with proposals and opportunities.
  • Staying updated on analytics trends and integrating new tools.

As a Data Analyst, you will have the chance to work alongside industry-leading clients across diverse sectors and leverage your technical expertise and problem-solving abilities to deliver impactful data insights and solutions that drive measurable outcomes for clients. The role while being hybrid will require the candidate to be present on client site as required.

Roles and Responsibilities

Developing, validating and transforming data to ensure quality and integrity for analysis.

Creating impactful data visualisations and dashboards using tools like Power BI, Tableau or Excel to present key insights.

Collaborating with clients to gather requirements, identify data sources and translate insights into actionable business recommendations.

Contributing to the creation of technical documentation including design specifications and process workflows.

Assist in developing innovative approaches to Analytics and Process Automation utilising tools such as Power Query, Power Automate and VBA to streamline operations.

Actively participating in workshops and meetings to understand client needs and provide tailored solutions.

Managing multiple workstreams while ensuring timely delivery of high-quality outputs.

Supporting Business Development activities including creating proposals and identifying client opportunities.

Staying updated on emerging trends in Data Analytics and continuously integrating new tools and techniques to enhance client solutions.

Overseeing financial aspects of engagements including work in progress and budgeting.

Attending initial meetings with prospective clients, supporting managers to establish strong relationships from the outset.

Leading, mentoring and developing a team of data analysts, fostering an environment of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Spearheading Business Development initiatives by identifying new opportunities, expanding our client portfolio and shaping growth strategies.

Bachelor's Degree in a Quantitative field (e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics or Computer Science).

A minimum 8 years of professional experience in Data Analysis.

Proficiency in at least one Programming language such as SQL, R or Python.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional certifications in Data Analytics, Data Science or Business Intelligence (e.g., Certified Analytics Professional, Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate).

Advanced degrees (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Engineering or a related technical field.

Experience, Skills and Competencies

Hands-on experience with Data Visualisation tools including PowerBI, Tableau and Excel Dashboarding (mandatory).

Strong expertise in Data Validation, Cleansing, Remediation and Transformation to ensure data integrity.

Extensive experience with Data Migration processes between systems and Data Source Identification.

Proven experience in Data Consolidation, Database Management (e.g., SQL, Oracle, IBM DB2, Teradata) and Database Design.

Expertise in creating Database Schema and managing Data Dictionaries.

Significant experience with Machine Learning algorithms and frameworks for building predictive models.

Familiarity with Big Data technologies and Cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).

Proficiency in Microsoft stack including SharePoint, Teams, PowerApps, Power Query, Power Automate (MS Flow) and VBA for Process Automation.

Knowledge of Data Warehousing concepts and experience with ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) processes.

Experience using Agile Project Management tools such as Azure DevOps, JIRA or MS Project.

Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex analytical concepts to diverse audiences.

Experience working in the Banking, Insurance, Asset Management, Healthcare, Life Science & Public Sector preferred.
