Job summary

Hiscox is seeking a senior Data Engineer within the Enterprise Technology (ET) team in the UK. You will join the Data service vertical led by the Head of Data Engineering, responsible for 140 applications and scalable data warehouse solutions.

Key work includes building ETL/ELT pipelines in GCP with Python and SQL, data modelling, and collaborating with stakeholders to translate business needs into end-to-end data solutions.

Qualifications

• Experience with data warehousing at scale in cloud and on-premises.
• Experience developing ETL solutions in GCP with Python and SQL.
• Exposure to DW development practices (code & configuration management, build processes).
• Strong understanding of enterprise level data warehouse architectures, data modelling concepts, and ETL/ELT best practices.
• Ability to take business requirements and design end-to-end solutions with team collaboration.
• Experience in Agile delivery models with CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments across data platforms.

The Team

This role forms part of the Enterprise Technology (ET) team lead by the CTO for ET who are accountable for the full life cycle of around 140 applications. ET has several service verticals, including Business Applications made up of 6 value streams and an Enterprise Application team, Data, End User Experience, Core Engineering, Architecture, and Portfolio Management. The role will sit within the Data service vertical, led by a Head of Data Engineering, reporting into the Lead Data Engineer.

Technical Skills

• Development background with exposure to Data Warehousing at scale on both cloud and on-premise
• Experience developing ETL solutions in GCP including Python and SQL as well as SQL Server including SSIS & T-SQL
• Exposure to DW development practices (code & configuration management, build processes)
• Strong understanding of enterprise level data warehouse architectures, data modelling concepts, and ETL/ELT best practices
• Ability to take business requirements and work with other team members to estimate and design end-to-end solutions
• Experience working in Agile delivery models with CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments across data platforms.
