Job summary

Arcus FM Limited is seeking a Data Engineer to join the Software Development team on an 18-month fixed-term contract. You will design, build, and maintain cloud-native data solutions, pipelines, and lakehouse components using Python, PySpark, and AWS services.

The role is primarily remote with a monthly requirement to visit the Redditch office. Strong SQL, Linux, and version control experience are essential, along with a degree in a related field.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python and PySpark.
• Experience with AWS Glue, Athena, Redshift, and cloud-based data platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain cloud‑native data solutions ensuring data is accurate, accessible, and trusted.
• Build scalable data pipelines using Python and PySpark.
• Utilise AWS Glue, Athena, Redshift and related AWS services to support lakehouse architectures.
• Work with relational and NoSQL databases to ensure data reliability.
• Collaborate with analysts, engineers, product owners, and stakeholders in an Agile environment.
• Troubleshoot data issues and improve pipeline performance.
• Maintain technical documentation and contribute to engineering best practices.

We’re looking for a talented Data Engineer to join our Software Development team, on an 18-month fixed term contract, and help shape the future of our cloud-based data environment.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys building scalable data solutions, working with modern AWS technologies, and solving complex data challenges. You’ll play a key role in developing reliable data pipelines and lakehouse platforms that support analytics, reporting, and decision‑making across the business.

Although this role allows for primarily remote working, there is a requirement to attend the Redditch office at least once a month.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Data Engineer, you’ll design, develop, and maintain cloud‑native data solutions that ensure data is accurate, accessible, and trusted.

• Designing and developing scalable data pipelines using Python and PySpark
• Building and optimising data workflows using AWS Glue, Athena, Redshift, and related AWS services
• Supporting modern lakehouse architectures, including Apache Iceberg
• Working with relational and NoSQL databases to ensure data is reliable and fit for purpose
• Collaborating with analysts, engineers, product owners, and stakeholders within an Agile environment
• Troubleshooting data issues, improving pipeline performance, and supporting production systems
• Maintaining technical documentation and contributing to engineering best practice

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a proactive and hands‑on Data Engineer who enjoys solving problems, improving processes, and delivering high‑quality technical solutions.

Essential experience

• Experience as a Data Engineer, ETL Developer, Data Platform Engineer, or a similar role
• Strong hands‑on experience with Python and PySpark
• Experience with AWS Glue, Amazon Athena, Amazon Redshift, and cloud‑based data platforms
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with both relational and NoSQL databases
• Experience supporting or developing Apache Iceberg or modern lakehouse solutions
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments
• Familiarity with Linux and Git‑based version control

Desirable experience

• Experience with Amazon Kinesis
• Experience using Jira
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and modern software engineering practices
