Job summary

HQ MARCOM in Northwood, UK seeks an experienced data scientist to design and deliver data integration solutions supporting maritime situational awareness. Requires NATO Secret clearance, 3+ years applying data science tools, and an advanced degree with relevant experience.

You will work with AI/ML tools (Databricks, TensorFlow, etc.), develop models, and apply data analytics to real-world datasets. This is a full-time, three-year fixed-term role based in Northwood with a competitive salary.

Qualifications

  • NATO Secret security clearance required.
  • 3+ years applying data science tools for advanced analytics, ML, and data visualization.
  • Advanced degree in data science/analytics or equivalent with related experience; or higher secondary education with vocational training plus 4 years related experience.
  • Experience delivering data integration using AI/ML tools (Databricks, Watson, Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit, TensorFlow).
  • Experience designing mathematical and statistical models to address business problems.
  • Experience applying data science/analytics/tools or programming languages to real-world datasets (Python, R, KNIME, Splunk, or geospatial data).
  • Desirable: industry-recognised qualification in a relevant field.
  • Desirable: experience with Hadoop, Spark, MapReduce.
  • Desirable: experience working in NATO or multinational defence/security sector.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver technical solutions to integrate complex data and enable data-driven decisions.
  • Deliver data integration projects and standardise technical practices and capability in project management, data engineering, and data science.
  • Build, test, and deploy technical solutions based on defined problems and business requirements.
  • Apply algorithms, data science workflows, data modelling, and AI to solve business problems and deepen maritime situational awareness.
  • Develop and adopt data engineering methods for data collection, storage, processing, pipeline management, and governance.
  • Develop architecture, policies, and ways of working that strengthen data integration maturity and enable improvement.

Salary: £58,000 - 98,000 per year

Requirements:
  • NATO Secret security clearance level.
  • At least 3 years experience applying data science tools to support advanced data analytics, machine learning, and data visualisation.
  • An advanced degree in data science, data analytics, or a closely related field, plus 2 years of function-related experience; or higher secondary education and completed advanced vocational training in the discipline leading to a professional qualification or accreditation, plus 4 years of related experience.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering data integration using AI and/or machine learning tools, such as Databricks, Watson, Microsoft Cognitive Toolkit, or TensorFlow.
  • Demonstrable experience designing mathematical and statistical models to address business challenges.
  • Demonstrable experience applying data science, analytics, and data integration tools or programming languages to real-world datasets, such as Python, R, KNIME, Splunk, or geospatial data.

We are Headquarters Allied Maritime Command (HQ MARCOM), NATOs central command for maritime forces, responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing naval operations and advising NATO leadership on maritime matters. This is a full-time, fixed-term role for three years, based in Northwood, Middlesex, UK, with a basic monthly salary of 6204.99 (tax free).
