Job description

You know all about our high street roots and bricks and mortar stores. Now, we're looking to the future. Since 2021, we've embraced some changes. Debenhams hasn't made a comeback—we've been here since 1778, evolving and adapting to the times. This is Debenhams today - Britain's Leading Online Department Store.

We are more than a department store—we are an institution. From creating the blueprint for designer collaborations with Designers at Debenhams, to launching countless brands and inventing the beauty counter, we've consistently shaped the retail landscape.

We don't underestimate the power of our brand or the place we hold in people's hearts. This is only the beginning of the next chapter for Debenhams.

Britain needs Debenhams.....Debenhams needs you!

Your Team

In Data, we charge towards commercial aims. We are a small data engineering team working at the centre of everything Debenhams does, providing reporting, insight, and data that enhances our customers' experience.

We work on a cross-departmental basis, providing data and insight relating to finance, merchandising, and customer experience. We constantly adopt new methodologies and work with a range of suppliers to enhance our data offering.

We use a variety of reporting databases across GCP and AWS, and are always exploring new opportunities for serving up innovative reporting solutions.

Over the past 12 months, we have significantly changed our reporting methodology, moving towards a single version of the truth for data across the Debenhams estate.

The team comprises a head of department, engineering lead, BI specialist, and an engineer.

The Role

We are looking to hire a Data Engineer primarily focused on providing reporting and analytics to the wider business. You will engage with key stakeholders and external suppliers, gathering requirements and creating reporting solutions using SQL, BigQuery, Google Analytics, and various BI tools.

You will develop new reports based on stakeholder needs and analyze business-critical queries as they arise.

You will be responsible for curating new data sources, ensuring alignment with existing datasets, and working with new suppliers to enhance our data estate.

What Value You Can Bring

Ideally, you will have advanced SQL skills, preferably in a cloud environment, with experience in Python/PySpark being an advantage.

You should have experience creating reports using BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and Quicksight, along with experience in web analytics, ideally GA4.

Experience working with GitHub is desirable but not essential.

Working with Us

To succeed here, you must love working at pace. The environment is relentless, but we thrive on it. Change is inevitable, so you need to be adaptable and agile. We encourage challenging the status quo, innovation, and openness to trying new approaches. We empower our people with freedom and autonomy to learn and grow. We are passionate, agile, creative, and united as one team.

Why Join Us?
  • Opportunities to participate in our share schemes
  • Core hours that allow flexible working arrangements
  • Benefits supporting your health and wellbeing
  • Up to 40% discount across all our brands
  • A vibrant social calendar
  • Offices in Manchester, London, and globally (some dog-friendly!), fostering a lively atmosphere and a family-like culture wherever you work
