Role Overview
As a Data Engineer, you will manage and improve the company's data ingestion, transformation, and analytical needs, directly supporting Data Science and Analytics functions. This role involves building and scaling data streams to support WGSN’s data products and services. Creativity and curiosity are essential in developing new problem-solving approaches.

You’ll join a diverse team of engineers and scientists within the wider decision science function. We value collaboration, continuous learning, and building solutions that drive business impact. Whether testing machine learning models or designing data pipelines, we prioritize creativity, technical excellence, and turning data into insight.

Key Accountabilities

  1. ETL Development
    Develop and implement robust ETL processes to ensure seamless data flow from sources to repositories. Optimize pipelines for performance and reliability. Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to design solutions.
  2. Database Management
    Manage and administer databases, ensuring data integrity, security, and availability. Perform database tuning and optimization.
  3. Data Quality and Governance
    Implement data alerting, testing, and quality checks, adhering to governance policies.
  4. Collaboration and Communication
    Work with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
  5. New tools and technologies
    Stay updated on emerging data engineering and science technologies. Evaluate and productionise AI developments to enhance workflows.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications Required

  1. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience.
  2. 3–5 years of data engineering experience with scalable data pipelines and ETL processes.
  3. Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
  4. Hands-on experience with big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Kafka, Hive, or Hadoop.
  5. Proficient in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Scala, Java, R).
  6. Experience deploying and maintaining cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
  7. Knowledge of data modeling, warehousing, and dimensional modeling; familiarity with dbt is a plus.
  8. Comfortable with CI/CD tools, version control, and containers (e.g., Git, Jenkins, Docker).
  9. Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks like GDPR or HIPAA.
  10. Familiarity with project management tools and Agile methodologies (e.g., Jira, Asana). Ability to craft KPIs for data projects.
