Strengthening talent and culture is one of our strategic priorities. We strive to make Aberdeen a great place to work so that we can attract and retain the industry’s best talent. Our people put our stakeholders at the heart of everything they do by helping us to make a positive difference to the lives of our clients, customers, colleagues, shareholders and society.

Aberdeen comprises three businesses, Investments, Adviser and interactive investor (ii), each of which focuses on meeting and adapting to our clients’ evolving needs.

  • Investments manage £368bn of client assets, offering investment capabilities built on the strength of our insights from wide-ranging research, worldwide investment expertise and local market knowledge.
  • Adviser provides financial planning solutions and technology to over half of the UK’s financial advisers, enabling them to create value for their businesses and clients.
  • ii, the UK’s second-largest direct-to-consumer investment platform, helps over 430,000 individual customers to plan, save and invest in the way that works best for them

About The Department

The Data Engineering team sits within the wider Data & Analytics function at Aberdeen, delivering high-quality reporting, analytics, and insights to key stakeholders. The team is focused on ensuring our data can be taken from source systems and joined together to create powerful data sets for use by the analytics team and the wider business.

About The Role

We are looking for a talented Senior Data Engineer to help develop a new centralised “single view” data model. This will be used to deliver new and improved insight and reporting to our key stakeholders. This opportunity is perfect for someone looking to fast-track their personal development whilst putting their own stamp on our approach to data and analytics.

This role will play a critical part in driving data-driven decision-making and innovation within the company. It requires someone who has strong technical skills whilst being entrepreneurial and proactive, with the ability to develop key stakeholder relationships quickly. You will also need to be a team player and collaborator, working across multi-discipline teams and be confident working with other technical specialists and analysts.

Your primary responsibility will be to develop a multi sourced data model that can be used to create and delivery specific reporting data models that will be used for dashboards, reporting, and insights. The analytics this supports will drive tangible value and change for our clients and our business. You will need to blend a mix of back-end and front-end data engineering to produce well governed and scalable data models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality and high impact data models.
  • Analysing raw data and developing and maintaining datasets.
  • Improving data quality and efficiency and building pipelines.
  • Ensuring compliance with data governance and security policies.
  • Work closely with all stakeholders, ensuring they are managed effectively, and that communication is timely and informative.
  • Identify new ways of using our data sources and help shape our data strategy.
  • Mentoring junior team members and the wider business community.

About The Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Technical Skills

  • Expert in the Microsoft Azure Stack.
  • Experience using data tools such as SQL, Excel, or Python.
  • Expertise in delivering data models within data visualisation tools, ideally with Power BI exposure.

Business Skills

  • Strong communication and organisation skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A passion for continuous learning and self-improvement.

Experience

  • Significant experience in data and analysis with a track record of value-add deliveries.
  • Previous experience in financial services or with market data is desirable.

We are a Disability Confident Committed employer and are happy to provide adjustments to the recruitment process to support candidates.
