Job description

Remote: 1x day per month expected in our Keynsham office

Do you want to help power better outcomes for pets, vets, and pet owners alike?

IVC Evidensia is undergoing an exciting digital transformation. The key to this is to improve the management of our core data sets. This means accelerating the standardisation of operational systems in practices, the creation of stronger tools for managing master data, and developing standard reporting models across the group.

As a data engineer, you will work with the team to advance the data platform within a DevOps culture. Knowledge and experience of ELT, orchestration, and scripting languages (such as T-SQL) are important. Along with this, a firm grasp of data modelling and management will be essential.

Who are we

We are a global leader in veterinary care, investing in our people, premises and processes to deliver outstanding care in around 2,500 locations across 20 countries.

At IVC Evidensia, exceptional animal care is a team effort - and that includes the vital work of our central support teams. Whether in HR, marketing, operations, IT, finance, or beyond, these roles keep our clinics running smoothly and effectively. By supporting our people and processes behind the scenes, they enable our practice teams to focus on delivering the highest standard of care to animals and their owners, delivering our promise of Healthy Animals, Happy Owners.

The role

The Data Engineer will be a technical authority accountable for the design and development of the technologies that underpin our data strategy. Primarily, this means orchestrating feeds of data from source systems to our group data platform, taking technical ownership of all parts of the process.

The Data Engineer will be expected to work closely with the business to deliver solutions to solve the business challenges. This will involve talking to SMEs and breaking the challenges into deliverables. Along with this, they will also work closely with the Data Architect to define our overarching data management strategy.

What will you'll bring to the role

We're looking for a technically skilled and business-aware individual with a strong understanding of data concepts, including storage, processing, and modelling. You should be comfortable working with both relational and non-relational data technologies and have experience building and maintaining pipelines using REST APIs, JSON, and ELT protocols. Proficiency in cloud environments is essential, with a preference for Azure, and exposure to business intelligence tools like Power BI is desirable. You'll act as a key interface between IT and functions such as Finance and Marketing, so excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills are vital.

You should be confident working within both Agile and waterfall frameworks and understand the importance of secure development practices and non-functional requirements such as scalability, performance, and access management. An international mindset, sensitivity to local business priorities, and a collaborative approach are essential.

You Matter to Us

Our people are at the heart of everything we do. That's why we invest in you: your growth, your environment, and your well-being. Alongside a competitive salary, you'll enjoy a range of benefits designed to support your career and life beyond work, including:
