Job description

Overview

We are the Information Intelligence Group (IIG) of CACI UK, a specialist technical consultancy providing bespoke solutions to solve complex operational problems. Due to some exciting growth within our business, we are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join us.

Role Location

You can work from any of our five offices in the UK (including Bristol, Cheltenham & London) or from home – you decide. The role will involve occasional travel to meet customers.

About the Role

As a Data Engineer at CACI IIG, you join a community of dedicated engineers who deliver cutting‑edge solutions for our public‑sector customers across Central Government, Defence, National Security and Critical National Infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with our clients to design and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines that guarantee data availability, accuracy and performance for analytics and operational decision‑making. You will also help shape the data engineering roadmap by driving research, defining technical strategy, aligning with business priorities and influencing key decisions.

This role will focus on the delivery of high‑priority projects, supporting customers across the full project lifecycle from initiation to completion. Working with a broad range of technical tools, you will be responsible for compliance with data governance, standards and quality frameworks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret and validate data requirements, gather and analyse large‑scale structured datasets, and perform profiling within data environments to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Design and implement ETL frameworks to ingest, transform, validate, normalise and cleanse data, ensuring it meets business and technical needs.
  • Apply data quality controls and prepare datasets for visualisation, implementing data models and managing storage solutions such as Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, BigQuery or Snowflake.
  • Support the development of data management standards and policies, including techniques for data synthesis and anonymisation to maintain compliance and security.
  • Develop robust data models to support analytics and reporting within secure environments.
  • Deliver performance optimisation through the monitoring and tuning of data workflows for speed, cost‑efficiency and reliability.
  • Establish and refine best practices in data engineering, while contributing to advanced analytics and visualisation strategies through research, evaluation of emerging technologies and presentation of findings to stakeholders.
The Fit

The ideal candidate will have a background in industry‑best practices for data management, security, scalability and an awareness of data standards, interoperability, data governance and data sharing across security domains. We are looking for someone who is passionate about technology, enjoys problem‑solving and has a collaborative mindset.

Additional Skills
  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer within complex environments.
  • Strong knowledge of data management principles, including data modelling, integration and governance.
  • Ability to assess existing data management systems and recommend improvements.
  • Experience working with Snowflake.
  • Familiarity with modern data architectures (e.g. cloud‑based, distributed systems).
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python and data pipeline tools such as Apache Airflow or Spark.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and big‑data technologies.
  • Awareness and evidence of data analytics and visualisation.
Security Clearance

Due to the industries we work in, the successful candidate must be able to obtain high‑level security clearance. To qualify, you must be a British citizen and have lived permanently in the UK for the last five years.

Why work for us?
Benefits

  • L&D: Budget for conferences, training courses and other materials.
  • Social: Fantastic culture with monthly social events.
  • Future You: Matched pension and health‑care package.

As a Data Engineer, career development and ongoing training is a key part of your growth. You will be expected to take significant ownership of your career and proactively take the steps you need to achieve the goals set for yourself.
