Job Description
Job Purpose

The post holder(s) will join a research data collection team undertaking a community survey with residents of Glasgow city. The brief survey asks about resident experiences of their local community including wellbeing, amenities, safety, and community cohesion.

This specific data collection lead role will require staff to travel within the immediate Glasgow area, supervising small teams, and collecting data on mobile/tablet devices from people within their own homes. Additional equipment administration may also be required. Staff will be responsible for logging and maintaining updates on their location and status and may need to work evenings and weekends. Training on the data collection processes for the study will be provided.

Main Duties And Responsibilities
  1. Data Collection: Work independently or as part of a team collecting data from study participants: follow defined quality standards, data protection laws, and internal data management policies to collect data by requesting participants to self-complete a questionnaire on a tablet or assist them to complete it by reading out questions. Responsible for ensuring collection, recording, storage, and download is completed in accordance with current data protection laws, internal data management policies, and study protocols.
  2. Communication: Responsible for delivering the participant recruitment and data collection element of the study protocol. The post holder will be required to communicate effectively and professionally with the project team by telephone, email, and in person, and provide regular updates on progress. Act as a point of contact with survey participants, providing clear advice on project processes to ensure understanding. Use experience, initiative, and judgment to seek resolution to issues and escalate when necessary.
  3. Health & Safety: Evaluate situations during fieldwork, using initiative and judgment to assess risks and follow protocols. During data collection, assess participants' ability to complete the survey and adapt as necessary. Ensure personal and team safety, record incidents, adhere to health and safety training, and use the Lone Worker Safety system where appropriate.
  4. Project Planning: Determine project-related priorities, plan, and schedule activities to ensure timely delivery, including evening and weekend work as required. Ensure adherence to study protocols and research governance, including safeguarding and adverse event protocols.
  5. Supervision: Supervise and monitor team members to ensure protocol compliance and address concerns. Maintain quality standards by identifying and mitigating risks.
  6. Administration: Complete project reports, identify trends, and present conclusions. Support administrative tasks like risk assessments, voucher management, online expense forms, and timesheets.
  7. Development: Attend training and briefings, and lead peer training when required. Undertake other duties as assigned by the management team.
Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 or equivalent in nursing, psychology, social sciences, or public health. Knowledge of systems, equipment, and software (Zoom, Outlook, Teams) for data collection.

  • E4. Leading and supervising staff, ensuring safety and protocol compliance.
  • E5. Working independently within a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable: Full, clean UK driving license and access to a car; familiarity with Qualtrics software.

Terms and Conditions
