Be part of something from the very beginning. Shape the future of next-generation data centre infrastructure.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an established Data Centre Design Manager to play a pivotal role in the development of a brand-new data centre site in the North of England.
Working at the heart of a major digital infrastructure development, you will be instrumental in shaping the project from its earliest stages, helping translate development ambitions into a coordinated, technically robust and deliverable design solution.
This is not simply a design coordination position within an established, operational environment. It is an opportunity to influence the development of a new site from the ground up, working alongside key stakeholders across development, engineering, construction, procurement and operations to help establish the foundations for a successful, large-scale data centre campus.
We are keen to speak with experienced Data Centre Design Managers from either a data centre developer or a specialist engineering and design consultancy who understand the technical complexity, commercial demands and delivery challenges associated with mission-critical infrastructure it doesn’t matter if you are electrical , Mechanical or Civils but any potential candidate MUST be have experience of Data Centre Design Management from an early stage.
If you are looking for greater ownership, meaningful project influence and the opportunity to leave your mark on a major development, this could be the next step in your career.
The Opportunity
As Data Centre Design Manager, you will take responsibility for coordinating and driving design activities across the assigned development workstreams, ensuring design solutions are technically aligned, commercially considered and capable of supporting the successful delivery of the project.
Working on-site, you will be closely involved in the evolution of the development, collaborating with internal teams and external consultants to manage design interfaces, resolve technical challenges and maintain control of programme, budget and quality.
Your contribution will be particularly important during the early stages of site development, where effective design management, forward planning and proactive stakeholder engagement can have a significant impact on the success of the wider project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead design coordination across assigned site and campus development workstreams, managing deliverables, design schedules, actions, risks and project controls.
  • Drive multidisciplinary collaboration between architects, structural and civil engineers, MEP consultants, specialist designers, contractors, commissioning teams and operational stakeholders.
  • Support early-stage site development, coordinating design inputs for site infrastructure, planning, permitting, entitlement and associated development requirements.
  • Manage design programme and quality, identifying potential issues, resolving interfaces and escalating critical risks before they affect project delivery.
  • Coordinate technical and commercial requirements, ensuring design solutions align with project objectives, construction methodologies, operational requirements and long-term asset performance.
  • Develop and review scopes of work for design consultants, engineering services, construction packages, commissioning and other specialist appointments.
  • Support procurement and cost management, reviewing proposals, comparing submissions, assessing pricing and helping maintain alignment between design intent and project budgets.
  • Coordinate critical equipment procurement with procurement and project teams, supporting technical alignment, delivery schedules and stakeholder communication.
  • Provide clear project reporting, communicating progress, design risks, programme implications and key decisions to senior development leadership.
  • Support phased campus development, helping establish a coordinated design approach that accommodates future expansion, scalability and the evolving requirements of the data centre market.
The Background We Are Looking For
  • Proven experience in data centre design management, design coordination or multidisciplinary engineering design delivery.
  • Exposure to hyperscale, colocation, cloud infrastructure or other large-scale mission-critical data centre developments.
  • Experience coordinating multiple design disciplines, consultants and technical interfaces.
  • An understanding of site development, planning, permitting, infrastructure coordination and early-stage project requirements.
  • Commercial awareness encompassing design budgets, scopes of work, consultant appointments, procurement and cost control.
  • The ability to manage design programmes, monitor deliverables, identify risks and drive timely resolution of technical issues.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to engage with senior development, engineering and construction teams.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to work effectively in a site-based development environment.

Experience working on projects from initial development and design stages through to construction and commissioning would be highly advantageous.
