Job summary

A leading healthcare organization in London is seeking a data manager to oversee data quality and management processes within the NHS. The successful candidate will develop standards, create frameworks for data quality monitoring, and collaborate with operational leads to address data issues. Candidates should have a relevant degree, preferably experience in a healthcare setting, and strong leadership skills.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of data collection and data flows within the organization, including internal and national data standards and requirements.
  • Establish and embed local data collection and management standards to ensure high-quality data that meets organizational and NHS needs.
  • Create and implement an organizational data quality framework that monitors data flow from input to output, identifying and addressing data issues promptly.
  • Oversee the design and scope of data quality work queues in Epic, ensuring proper specification, ownership, and management to maintain data integrity.
  • Design and specify reports to measure data quality, providing accessible information on data issues and compliance with data standards.
  • Ensure that data issues are owned by appropriate operational or clinical leads and establish robust processes for issue resolution to maintain high data quality.

Education/Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification relevant to data management
  • Postgraduate diploma or equivalent experience

Experience

  • Experience in a data management setting, preferably within the NHS
  • Expert knowledge of NHS data flows, datasets, and standards, including data related to diagnosis, treatment, and care of cancer
  • Good knowledge of hospital clinical and information systems
  • Experience in data interpretation and analysis, including root cause analysis
  • Experience using data to design and implement service improvements
  • Experience in specifying reporting and information outputs
  • Experience managing a team
  • Experience in summarizing data and report writing, especially explaining complex technical issues to non-technical audiences

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and report-writing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Strong numerical skills and the ability to analyze data to inform service decisions
  • Effective communication skills to influence staff at all levels, including senior clinicians and executives
  • Ability to work independently, plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Report writing and presentation skills
  • Problem-solving skills to resolve complex issues
  • Leadership skills with the ability to motivate others
