Northumberland County Council is seeking a highly motivated waste data and compliance professional to lead on a range of data and regulatory projects, including EPR and Digital Waste Tracking. The role focuses on establishing robust data collection and monitoring to report disposal costs and performance.
You will work with the Neighbourhood Services Team and external contractors, oversee data interpretation and FOI requests, and support hybrid working with on-site Cowley Road Depot presence.
As the role develops, the candidate will become a subject area expert in the fields that they are assigned such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and Digital Waste Tracking (DWT) regulatory requirements. This will also include the ability to present complex waste data through data visualisation that allow for ease of interpretation for both management and educational purposes. An early priority of the role is to set up a robust data collection and monitoring system allowing the council to accurately report collection and disposal costs of packaging materials covered under EPR. Of equal importance, the post holder will also be required to lead on ensuring that the council is compliant with Digital Waste Tracking (DWT), not least but including the Cowley Road Waste Transfer Station and the council trade waste service. The team operate on a hybrid basis, meeting weekly at County Hall on Wednesdays and there is also a desk available at the Cowley Road Depot, 5 days per week if required, and regular off‑site meetings meaning a good variety interaction with colleagues.
