Job description

We’re on a mission to make money work for everyone.

We’re waving goodbye to the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking.

With our hot coral cards and get-paid-early feature, combined with financial education on social media and our award winning customer service, we have a long history of creating magical moments for our customers!

We’re not about selling products - we want to solve problems and change lives through Monzo.

Monzo’s data discipline includes data analysts, data scientists, analytics engineers, backend engineers and machine learning scientists, embedded across the business.

The mission of Monzo’s data team is to:

Enable Monzo to Make Better Decisions, Faster

We have a strong culture of data-driven decision making. We're great believers in powerful, real-time analytics and empowerment of the wider business. All our data lives in one place in BigQuery, our data warehouse.

Strategic finance data is a specialised squad within our finance and risk data team.

You’ll play a key role by...

  • owning and continuously improving data products used for reporting to management and investors;
  • assessing, communicating and delivering data requirements for product launches, geographic expansion and other business changes;
  • analysing financial performance and underlying drivers to explain the past and influence forecasting and finance strategy going forward;
  • partnering with stakeholders in finance and in data to deliver projects, and identifying opportunities for further collaboration;
  • initiating and delivering improvements to our processes and data infrastructure.

We’d love to hear from you if…

  • you have experience analysing data in support of commercial decision making;
  • you are proficient in programming (we use SQL and python, but transferrable skills will be considered);
  • you are driven, resourceful and proactive.
Nice to haves
  • you have work experience working in finance (e.g. fp&a, investor relations, banking) or in consulting;
  • you have acquired or are working towards a finance qualification (e.g. ACA or CFA);
  • you have experience working with a data visualisation tool (e.g. Looker) or finance system (e.g. Anaplan, SAP);
  • you have experience building data models (e.g. using dbt).

Not ticking every box? That’s totally okay! Studies show that women and people of colour might hesitate to apply unless they meet every single requirement. At Monzo, we’re dedicated to creating a diverse and welcoming team. If you’re passionate about this role and keen to learn and grow with us, we encourage you to apply— even if you don’t have everything that's listed just yet. Drop us your application, we’d love to hear from you!

What’s in it for you

We’ll help you relocate to the UK.

We can sponsor your visa.

This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London).

We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, and at times that suit you and your team.

£1,000 learning budget each year to use on books, training courses and conferences.

We will set you up to work from home; all employees are given Macbooks and for fully remote workers we will provide extra support for your work-from-home setup.

The application journey has 4 key steps:

  • Initial Call;
  • Take home task;
  • Final interview including a technical case and a behavioural interview.

Our average process takes around 2-3 weeks but we will always work around your availability.

You will have the chance to speak to our recruitment team at various points during your process but if you do have any specific questions or want to talk through reasonable adjustments ahead of or during application please reach out to us at any point on tech-hiring@monzo.com.

We have some guidelines on using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to ace an application and interview at Monzo. You can read them here.
