Moorfields Eye Hospital is one of the oldest and largest ophthalmology providers in the UK, providing care across a network of over 20 sites across London and the southeast.

The quality, service improvement and sustainability (QSIS) team are seeking a data analyst to join the team. The QSIS team deliver a range of improvement projects across Moorfields, supporting outpatients, theatres, quality and digital innovation programmes. Moorfields is on an exceptionally exciting journey over the next few years, with the implementation of a new electronic patient record (EPR) system in 2026 and the move to our new state‑of‑the‑art hospital in 2027.

We are looking for a self‑motivated individual who is technical and numerate, with strong Excel and SQL skills, and good communication skills. The post‑holder will be working in the informatics function of our team, supporting project delivery by using data to find efficiencies, drive informed decisions and improve patient outcomes.

Our office is based at Old Street, London and we offer flexible hybrid working, expected 1‑2 days a week on site. You will also have access to training and development opportunities, including SQL coding, data analysis, project management and improvement methodologies.

Main responsibilities
Analytical service & insight
  • Capture information from relevant stakeholders and transfer to intelligence.
  • Provide detailed interpretation and recommendations relating to analysis.
  • Provide advice and guidance to senior staff and service managers on the interpretation of information reports.
  • Support, and lead where appropriate, delivery of information and performance reporting that enables services to track performance against agreed targets.
  • Make key stakeholders aware of any issues with relevant datasets, for example highlighting data quality issues, explaining terminology and investigating irregularities.
Performance & information
  • Liaise with stakeholders to follow up omissions, errors and data inconsistencies.
  • Develop and maintain regular reporting for both internal and external recipients, pursuing automation where appropriate.
  • Ensure managers and clinicians have the information they require to deliver high quality services for patients.
  • Provide statistical analysis of trends within performance data, highlighting variances and supporting decision making and improvement.
  • Manipulate and analyse data using advanced Excel skills, including combining data from multiple sources, producing statistics, pivot tables and graphs.
  • Extract and manipulate data from the trust’s data warehouse using TSQL on Microsoft SQL Management Studio.
  • Support the scoping of new datasets by testing and auditing clinical systems and verifying data outputs.
  • Conduct in‑person audits, such as time and motion data collection in clinics and theatres, and support projects where appropriate.
Communication & engagement
  • Deputise for Line Manager at meetings/forums relevant to your area.
  • Present verbal and written reports and represent the QSIS team at internal and external meetings.
  • Participate in discussions to determine appropriate performance measures and translate business needs into metrics.
  • Share knowledge with the QSIS team and colleagues when relevant to your work area and/or trust‑wide transformation projects.
People & performance
  • Role model Moorfields’ values and behaviour framework.
  • Support the QSIS team with administrative processes such as liaising with IT and suppliers regarding issues raised.
