Mobiie has been appointed by Transport Scotland to deliver the Traffic Scotland Operations Contract.

Based in the Traffic Scotland National Control Centre, our team proactively operates, monitors, and supports the safe, efficient, and resilient operation of over 3,000 km of road network, delivering the following core services:

  1. Planning and responding to special events, roadworks, and incidents.
  2. Provision of traffic data management and road network performance reporting.
  3. Communication of traffic and travel info for the Scottish Trunk Road Network via radio, digital, and social media channels.
  4. Implement continuous improvement, best practice, and innovation.

Job description

The Data Analyst role will be based at the Traffic Scotland National Control Centre in South Queensferry.

This is an exciting role for an individual to join a small team delivering data services and analysis, road network performance monitoring, and analysis of technical systems functionality in a control room environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Attend and contribute to regular review and technical meetings.
  2. Collaborate with key stakeholders to enhance service effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
  3. Conduct extensive data mining and analytics to extract maximum value from available data, providing intelligence for operational planning and event delivery.
  4. Utilise all data gathering systems (including third-party data) to integrate data-led insights to the control room service to support the delivery of a high-quality customer-focused service.
  5. Use network performance data to inform planning and monitoring strategies for events.
  6. Use and develop data analytics to capture and report on recurring events on the road network.
  7. Support the development of a wide range of network reporting tools and outputs, and utilise data analytics and other data/information as appropriate to assess and report on network performance (both live and historic).
  8. Help to generate network performance reporting through a variety of mediums (infographics, tables, dashboards, etc.).
  9. Assist in responding to data and network performance requests, establishing templates, and continuously improving to meet client and customer requirements efficiently and accurately.

On occasion, there will be a requirement to work additional hours to support operational services, such as during severe weather events and major events.

Profile:

Essential:

  • Minimum of HND (or equivalent) in an appropriate technical discipline relevant to the role.
  • An analytical and methodical approach to detect problems and find solutions.
  • Enthusiastic and results-driven with excellent teamwork skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret data and turn analysis into actionable insights, identifying trends and anomalies. High level of accuracy in data entry, analysis, and reporting to ensure the reliability of the data provided to stakeholders and the public.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing technologies and methodologies in data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritise effectively under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable:

  • Skills in software and/or database development.
  • Knowledge of road network operations and familiarity with road network data and data models.
  • Familiarity with GIS tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) and experience in creating reporting dashboards (e.g., PowerBI).
  • A working knowledge and experience of spatial analysis.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with government agencies.
  • Knowledge of the Scottish Trunk Road network.
