Overview
Discover a career in your hands at HMRC. This role sits within the Data Access team of the HMRC Legal Group and focuses on developing high-quality Power BI reports and datasets to support internal and external stakeholders. Outputs underpin operational and regulatory reporting across the Legal Group and feed into the Legal Group Hub to enable data-led decision making.
The Legal Group provides legal services to HMRC, including independent reviews of decisions, tribunal and civil litigation, work on new legislation, drafting statutory instruments, and legal advice to ExCom and staff. The team also provides technical accountancy and forensic services, and handles Ministerial Correspondence and Freedom of Information requests for HMRC.
Responsibilities
- Build Power BI reports from existing datasets, selecting appropriate measures to ensure correct results.
- Build datasets from existing dataflow sources; identify missing information and collaborate with others to address gaps.
- Support the peer review process to ensure quality outputs across the team.
- Provide updates and ongoing support for key products, such as the Legal Group Hub.
- Provide bespoke data extracts or analysis to support briefings and data requests from Ministers, ExCom, HMRC Board and other senior meetings as required.
- Work closely with other analysts and senior leaders to develop data usage to drive operational performance and foster a data-driven culture within the Legal Group.
- Collaborate effectively within a virtual team distributed across the UK.
Qualifications and Skills
- Power BI Experience: demonstrable experience in developing insightful, user-friendly dashboards and reports using Power BI. Foundational understanding of DAX and comfort with data models to support analytical outputs.
- Analysis and Synthesis: ability to manipulate and analyse data (e.g., merging, analysing, consolidating data using pivot tables, functions, and charts).
- Communication: strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to share insights with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Data quality assurance, validation, and linkage: ability to identify appropriate data collection, preparation, and assess data fit for purpose.
- Logical and creative thinking: ability to apply logic and creativity to problem-solving.
