Job description

About the Role

We now have an opportunity for a Data Analysis Scientist to join our Imaging Team at Diamond Light Source in Didcot. The role involves working closely with beamline scientists to enhance data processing, interpretation capabilities, and develop new methods. You will collaborate with software scientists and engineers to improve experimental and computational workflows, focusing on data processing, interpretation, and real-time feedback. The position offers a chance to develop expertise in a multidisciplinary environment dedicated to scientific excellence.

Electron and X-ray diffractive imaging techniques, such as ptychography, are used to explore complex materials with high spatial resolution. We aim to improve these techniques by advancing experimental and computational workflows, developing new methods to meet scientific needs, and creating solutions for live data processing and visualization to enhance user experience.

About You

You will hold a relevant First Degree or equivalent, along with a postgraduate degree or significant relevant experience. Practical experience in:

  • Modern programming languages such as Java, C++, and Python
  • Professional, scientific, or technical fields

with a background in using advanced mathematics and software engineering techniques for application development. Desirable but not essential experience includes GPU or HPC code development, data management, describing data, exploiting databases for scientific work, knowledge of ptychography or related diffraction imaging techniques, basic experience with modern web technologies (React/TypeScript), and cloud infrastructure (Kubernetes).

Diamond offers an excellent benefits package, including 26 days of annual leave plus Christmas closure, public holidays, volunteering days, flexible working hours, a defined benefit pension scheme, and onsite amenities such as a nursery, cafes, sports, and leisure facilities. A relocation allowance may be available where applicable.
