Job summary

Haringey Council is seeking a Surveyor – Disrepair / Damp & Mould to ensure housing stock is safe, compliant, and well maintained. You will diagnose, manage and resolve damp, mould and disrepair cases across a portfolio of around 20,000 tenanted and leasehold homes.

You will perform inspections, condition surveys, prepare specifications, oversee works, and support legal disrepair cases with robust documentation.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of building construction, defect analysis, and building pathology.
• Proven experience managing damp, mould and disrepair cases; understanding of the Legal Disrepair process and Housing Conditions Protocol.
• Ability to prepare comprehensive specifications, reports, and fully coded Schedules of Works using NHF/NATFED SOR codes.
• Experience managing contractors, including assessing variations, monitoring works quality, and undertaking WIP and post inspections.
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation, site safety practices, and compliance requirements, including HHSRS implications.
• Ability to interpret and challenge technical or legal expert reports and convert findings into deliverable work programmes.
• Experience using housing management and repairs systems such as Northgate or Service Connect.
• Clear, professional communication skills, including producing technical reports and responding to queries from managers, legal teams, and other stakeholders.
• HNC/HND or equivalent technical qualification.
• Experience preparing evidence, reports, or witness statements for legal proceedings.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose building defects and lead on damp, mould and disrepair cases across ~20,000 homes.
• Carry out pre/post inspections, condition surveys, and joint site visits with operatives, contractors and external specialists.
• Prepare detailed specifications and reports; oversee on-site works and ensure compliance with statutory and health & safety requirements.
• Support legal disrepair cases by interpreting expert reports and producing clear documentation for potential court use.
• Collaborate with housing repairs team and external partners to deliver high-quality, compliant repairs.
