Job description

Action Air Systems, LLC is seeking HVAC Apprentices who need to acquire apprenticeship hours prior to obtaining state licensure to join our team. The HVAC Apprentice will work alongside a licensed journeyman in the installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC systems under the supervision of a licensed technician. This role requires foundational technical skills from a technical high school or secondary education. The apprentice will have strong communication, attention to safety, and the ability to work in physically demanding environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation, removal, and maintenance of HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs.
  • Install sheet metal, ducting, copper and PVC piping (brazing, Pro Press).
  • Maintain service documentation and work orders accurately.
  • Keep tools, materials, and service vehicles organized and secure.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure high-quality service.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and customers.
  • Promote sales of equipment repairs and replacements.
  • Adhere to PPE and all safety protocols.
  • Participate in training and on-the-job learning.
  • Follow all relevant regulatory and code compliance standards.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Technical Skills & Abilities

  • Read and interpret safety instructions, manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Proficient with hand/power tools and diagnostic instruments (multi-meters).
  • Understand refrigeration/heating cycles, troubleshooting methods, and air properties.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and components (thermostats, compressors, control systems, etc.).
  • Use psychrometric charts and perform basic heat load/cooling calculations.
  • Familiarity with basic AC/DC electrical theory and advanced wiring diagrams.
  • Computer literacy, particularly with Windows-based systems.
  • Prior mechanical experience with an aptitude for mechanics is a plus.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Lift and move equipment (15–50 lbs) regularly.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and work at heights (>3 ft).
  • Perform repetitive motions with hands and arms.
  • Work in varying indoor and outdoor temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Drive a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Be available for flexible shifts, including weekends or emergency call-outs.
  • Tolerate occasional exposure to wet/humid environments and precarious locations.
