Job description

We are looking for Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMN) to join our dynamic and forward-thinking team on our Tier 4 personality disorder service, New Dawn Ward. You will be expected to work 38.5 hours a week with a mix of day and night shifts. The post offers a unique opportunity to develop skills across specialties, such as DBT, and gain knowledge from other specialist pathways, all under one roof.

New Dawn Ward at Cygnet Hospital Beckton is an 18-bed specialist Tier 4 Personality Disorder service. Women can be admitted if they have a diagnosis of personality disorder, exhibit self-harming behavior, and are able to accept the need for help. Service users can be informal or detained under the Mental Health Act.

Cygnet Hospital Beckton is a specialist service for women, located in East London, with a "good" overall CQC rating. We provide comprehensive services across four specialist wards: Acute, PICU, Tier 4 Personality Disorder, and Complex Personality Disorder, catering to women with complex mental health needs.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with service users and carers to motivate and support recovery.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure safe and effective care delivery.
  • Apply meaningful interventions based on assessed needs.
  • Maintain accurate records and care plans for service users.
  • Demonstrate integrity, undertake audits, and maintain documentation.
  • Stay informed about the Mental Health Act 1983 and current nursing practices.
  • Commit to patient recovery, monitor and manage risks effectively.
  • Show compassion, resilience, and support service user independence.
  • Complete mandatory training, including restraint training.

Desirable Skills and Interests:

  • Ability to deputise in a clinical lead role.
  • Interest in leadership, research, and assessment.
  • Interest in learning and applying psychological interventions like DBT.
  • Experience in Ward-specific areas, e.g., Personality Disorder.
