Job summary

National Fostering Group is seeking a Cyber Security Manager to lead a 12‑month cyber security programme and strengthen security governance. You will manage the SecOps Engineer and report to the IT Director as part of the IT Senior Leadership Team.

You will drive Cyber Essentials Plus certification, data classification, and incident response improvements, collaborating with executive stakeholders and external security specialists to evolve the framework in step with evolving threats.

Qualifications

  • Experience in cyber security leadership with a proven track record delivering security programmes and communicating with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to implement Cyber Essentials / Cyber Essentials Plus, governance, incident response and data protection controls.
  • Experience assessing supplier security risks and translating complex security matters for technical and non-technical audiences.

About the role:

We are looking for a Cyber Security Manager to lead and deliver our 12-month Cyber Security Programme, strengthening our security posture and building long-term resilience across National Fostering Group.

Reporting into the IT Director and working as part of the IT Senior Leadership Team, you will take ownership of key cyber security initiatives including achieving Cyber Essentials Plus certification, improving security governance, embedding data classification and Data Loss Prevention controls, strengthening supplier assurance and enhancing incident response capabilities.

This is a strategic yet hands-on role, where you will lead programme delivery while providing oversight of day-to-day security operations across our technology estate. You will work closely with IT colleagues, Executive stakeholders, business teams and external security specialists to identify risks, deliver improvements and ensure our cyber security framework continues to evolve in line with the changing threat landscape.

You will also directly manage the SecOps Engineer, support security awareness initiatives and provide clear reporting and assurance to senior leadership teams.

Who we’re looking for:

The successful candidate will have experience in cyber security leadership with a proven track record of delivering security programmes, managing risks and communicating effectively with senior stakeholders.

You will have experience across areas such as Cyber Essentials / Cyber Essentials Plus, security governance, incident response, security testing, supplier assurance and data protection controls. You will be comfortable balancing strategic thinking with practical delivery and have the ability to translate complex technical security matters for both technical and non-technical audiences.

You will be a confident communicator, organised programme leader and credible security professional who can work collaboratively across an organisation. Experience within a regulated environment would be desirable.

Recognised security certification (e.g. CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent) and/or membership of a recognised professional body (e.g. ISC2, ISACA, BCS, NCSC) or equivalent relevant years experience.

Experience commissioning security testing, penetration testing or independent security assurance.

Experience managing supplier or third-party security risks.

Experience implementing data classification frameworks and/or Data Loss Prevention controls.

Working knowledge of Microsoft security tooling including Defender, Purview, Intune and Conditional Access.

Understanding of incident response processes, UK GDPR / DPA 2018 and security obligations.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical teams, business stakeholders and senior leaders.

Strong programme management skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and deliver outcomes.
