Job summary

mydentist is seeking a Cyber Security Engineer to join our IT team on an 18-month fixed-term contract. The role is full-time and hybrid, with on-site days at our Support Centre in Kearsley (M26 1GG) and flexible arrangements around business needs.

You will own hands-on security of our web estate, Azure cloud, and evolving AI services, focusing on secure design, identity protection, and API security. You will work with the Platform Engineering team to ensure secure deployment and respond to

Qualifications

• 5+ years in hands-on cybersecurity engineering or security architecture
• Experience managing WAF/edge security at scale (Cloudflare/Akamai)
• Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Entra ID, Conditional Access policies, Azure app registrations
• Practical knowledge of API security, OWASP Top 10 remediation, secure web app design
• Experience in Agile/DevOps environments and working embedded in platform teams
• Familiarity with AI/LLM security risks and best practices for securing AI-powered systems
• Experience with outsourced MDR or SOC providers
• Exposure to identity governance practices including access reviews, lifecycle management and RBAC

Responsibilities

• Own hands-on security of mydentist's web estate, Azure cloud, and AI services
• Hardening web ingress controls, securing identity/access, establishing security guardrails for AI adoption
• Manage Azure security posture, WAF/edge security, and security in software development
• Lead API security design and governance across platform APIs
• Define/maintain security baselines for Azure workloads, VNets, and on-prem systems in transition
• Collaborate with Platform Engineering to ensure secure cloud infra with network segmentation and least-privilege
• Coordinate with AI/Automation Lead to ensure AI solutions are secure-by-design
• Monitor AI security risks and translate threat intel into practical controls
• Interface with Arctic Wolf MDR provider and feed intelligence back to engineering
• Use external intel to proactively harden controls before threats materialise
