Job description

Allen Lane is delighted to support the London Borough of Hounslow in their search for a Cyber Security Engineer on a permanent basis. This key role involves protecting systems and public services from cyber threats, ensuring compliance with Cyber Security standards, managing threat detection, and supporting digital resilience, security awareness, and policy enforcement. Please note this is a hybrid role with 1 day per week on-site in Hounslow.

As a Cyber Security Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

1. Ensuring rapid detection and response to cybersecurity threats
2. Reducing cybersecurity risks across the council’s IT infrastructure
3. Protecting council data and services from third-party risks
4. Maintaining strong security in line with the governance framework
5. Ensuring compliance with UK public sector regulations and maintaining necessary security certifications
6. Implementing robust security controls
7. Keeping ahead of emerging cyber threats, improving resilience, and ensuring business continuity

Required experience and knowledge:

• Threat monitoring and incident response
• Vulnerability management and risk assessments
• Third-party and supply chain risk assessments
• Security assurance and compliance
• Experience with security tools and system management, including Sentinel & MS Defender
• Knowledge of security policies, standards, processes, and procedures — design, review, and maintenance

Key qualifications and technical skills:

CISM, CISSP, CEH, or other relevant security certifications

Knowledge of SIEM, SOC, Threat Intelligence, network/cloud security, policies, and compliance

What you will receive:

A salary between £41,442 and £50,574, along with excellent benefits including the local government pension scheme.
