Programme title: Cyber Security Degree Apprenticeship

Level: 6

Location: Bristol (Ashton House and Babcock Technology Centre)

Our 4-year Cyber Security Degree Apprenticeship is an exciting opportunity to build your career in cyber security while gaining a Level 6 Cyber Security Degree Apprenticeship Standard and a BSc (Hons) Cyber Security Technical Professional. Working alongside experienced professionals, you’ll help protect critical systems and information, contributing to the delivery of complex and vital services across the defence sector.

About the programme

You’ll join Babcock’s Information Security team and start building the knowledge and experience needed to become a Cyber Security Engineer. From day one, you’ll contribute to meaningful projects, capturing and refining cyber security requirements and supporting the secure design, development, and implementation of systems.

Day to day, you’ll work on a broad mix of internal and customer-facing programmes. You’ll learn how to apply cyber security principles to digital systems, contribute to assurance processes, and use Ministry of Defence frameworks to ensure systems are secure by design. You’ll also develop strong documentation, communication and logical thinking skills – all essential for a successful career in cyber.

This role will give you insight into the systems and strategies that underpin cyber defence and teach you how to navigate an evolving landscape with confidence. It’s a rewarding and highly relevant career path that makes a real-world impact.

Your education/training

You’ll work towards the Level 6 Cyber Security Degree Apprenticeship Standard, delivered in partnership with Gloucestershire College and UWE Bristol.

You’ll cover core topics including Foundations of Cyber Security, Network Foundations, Computer Architecture and Operating Systems, Malware, Threats and Defensive Programming, Risk Assessment and Security Assurance, and Legal, Regulatory and Compliance Standards.

Upon successful completion, you’ll achieve a BSc (Hons) in Cyber Security Technical Professional and gain recognition as an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Information Security (CIISec).

Upon successful completion of the programme, you’ll step into the role of a Cyber Security Engineer at Babcock. Here, you’ll put your expertise to work in a supportive environment, contributing to critical projects that ensure the safety and security of information systems.

What you’ll need

  • 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including Maths and English
  • 3 A Levels at grade B or above in subjects such as Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, or Design Technology. (Alternatively, a BTEC in Engineering Design or Computer Science may substitute one A Level.)
  • Many of our apprenticeship programmes are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which programmes you are eligible for. For this programme, you must be eligible to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels – GOV.UK.
