The OpportunityChallenges don't come any bigger than defending democracy. The UK Parliament faces complex threats you won't find in other organisations. And they change quickly. At Parliamentary Digital Services, it's our task to look out for the cyber-based threats that arise from a constantly developing domestic and geopolitical landscape. As Cyber Security Analyst, you'll join our highly collaborative Cyber Security team, which is dedicated to protecting the people, data and technology at the two Houses of Parliament. As a result, we have state-of-the-art tooling and access to excellent training resources to defend this 200+ year-old institution from a very modern threat landscape.
The team is split into four areas - Respond, Prevent, Assure and Deliver, and you'll focus mainly on the Respond area. You'll resolve cyber security issues, provide expert advice on cyber security, investigate malware infections, and analyse and mitigate against phishing campaigns. But your work won't stop there - we'll also expect you to:
- Use SIEM tools to gather and correlate logs, define attack scenarios and create alerts and watch lists
- Review log sources, ensure they align to Parliament's ever-changing risk profile, review endpoint logs, and track attackers and malware
- Learn how to perform forensic investigations and develop an awareness of associated legal and regulatory compliance
- Support security professionals in carrying out risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for common and well-understood scenarios
- Use threat and vulnerability information to create attack use-cases and detection rules for operation within the security technology tools and use-case framework
- Produce incident reports for various stakeholders, look at incident trends to identify patterns and use this information to help inform Parliament's cyber defence
- Liaise with security partners to keep up-to-date on current threats to Parliament and develop a thorough understanding of its security requirements
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a wide range of security processes to enable knowledge sharing within the cyber security function
- Help to educate fellow colleagues from across the business on cyber security matters.
What You NeedWe're looking for a professional with good knowledge of security concepts, technologies and practices, and the ability to translate this knowledge into advice for users and scale it up to a network level. It's also essential that you embody our four key values: care, confidence, community and curiosity. More specifically, you'll need:
- An understanding of network infrastructure technologies and the different functions they perform. This should include cloud technologies and the risks associated with different deployment types (PaaS, IaaS, SaaS)
- Good report writing skills, and the ability to analyse and interpret complex data
- The ability to provide commentary on data for cyber operations reports while developing, implementing and improving processes
- An awareness of Parliament's threat landscape, and an understanding of how you might apply this knowledge to networks while identifying security risks and recommending improvements
- Sound judgement and decision-making skills, a 'hands-on' approach to problem solving and the ability to remain calm under pressure while taking control of incidents
- Be able to attend on site between 2-3 days a week on average
- The ability to pass security clearance, backed by the right to work in the UK
