We are proud to support our client, a company specializing in Perishable Air-Imports, in finding an experienced Customs Clerk to join their expanding team. The salary ranges between 38k and 45k, with potential to earn the higher amount based on experience. Perishable goods experience is ideal but not essential if you have strong customs experience along with air and road transport knowledge.

This excellent independent company is seeking a Customs Clerk, ideally with perishable goods experience and expertise in managing the customs clearance process for perishable goods entering the country via air and road from the EU.

The position involves evening/night shifts on a 4 on, 4 off schedule, with flexible start times at 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, or 7pm, for 12-hour shifts.

The role requires a customs professional who is highly numerate, with excellent Excel skills and proficiency in MS Office. The position offers opportunities to get involved in various areas of the business, including the ETSF Warehouse, Transport Operations, and the sales team.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Ensuring compliance with Border Force, Port Health, and APHA regulations for perishable imports.
• Liaising with Transport Operations to monitor shipments in transit and ensure timely management.
• Conducting and controlling ETSF entries, ensuring Border Force compliance and facilitating all import controls.
• Managing the entire APHA applications and customs clearance process.
• Communicating with authorities, airlines, transport teams, and customers to keep stakeholders updated.

The skills and experience you will need:

• Proficiency in Port/Plant Health applications, customs entries, ETSF protocol, and EU import procedures.
• Excellent knowledge of office software and customs-specific platforms such as Gov Gateway, Descartes, Sequoia/ASM, IPAFFS, CHEIF, CNS, CCS, Dstin8, Pentant, etc.
• Attention to detail, especially during processing, with accurate record-keeping using Excel worksheets.
• Ability to generate leads and develop sales in the perishable imports sector through relationship building.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with confidence in chasing shipment statuses and collaborating with transport and reporting to customers.
