Customs Clearance Clerk
Folkestone
£35,000 (dependent on experience)
Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:30

An expanding freight forwarding company is seeking a skilled and experienced Customs Clearance Clerk to support their growing operations team. This full-time, office-based role involves all aspects of customs clearance, including imports, exports, and transit declarations, with a focus on delivering exceptional service and ensuring compliance with UK customs procedures.

About the role:

Working with a collaborative team, you will manage customs entries and declarations from start to finish across various transport modes. This position suits someone who values variety, accuracy, and operates within a professional logistics environment.

Day-to-day duties include:
  1. Completing full-cycle import and export entries, including T1 transit documentation
  2. Using CNS, Destin8, and Multifreight to submit entries and track clearance progress
  3. Reviewing shipping and commercial documentation for accuracy and compliance
  4. Applying correct tariff codes and managing duty calculations
  5. Handling client queries, post-clearance amendments, and HMRC correspondence
  6. Monitoring deadlines and updating clients throughout the clearance process
  7. Supporting internal teams with best practices and regulation updates
What we’re looking for:
  • At least 2 years of customs clearance experience, including import and export
  • Experience with customs systems such as CNS and Destin8
  • Knowledge of customs regimes like Home Use, Customs Warehousing, Temporary Admission, and Transit
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills
  • Good understanding of tariff classification and UK Border Force regulations
  • Strong time management skills and accuracy in high-volume work
  • A collaborative and proactive problem-solving approach
