Scope of Position:

To ensure the proper and timely clearance and release of consignments, while providing exceptional customer service within the Customs Brokerage department.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and a proven history of providing exceptional customer service at all levels are required.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Operations:

  • Ensure customer-specific DLSOP (Desk Level Standard Operating Procedure) are utilized in conjunction with consignment documentation and data to fulfill government agencies & customer requirements.
  • Verify that all documentation received for customs purposes are compliant and correct, and retain them within our document retention system.
  • Transpose customs declaration information from documents or other sources into the customs entry system for timely processing.
  • Track and trace Customs files via your assigned work board.
  • Ensure timely customs submission and release of all customs entry types, for all modes of transport to the UK, in line with KPIs.
  • Ensure accurate and timely client billing.
  • Interact with customs authorities to address issues/questions during the clearing process.
  • Act as liaison between customs authorities, government agencies, and customers.
  • Attend customs inspections & present documentation as required.
  • Maintain strong relationships with customs officers & customers.
  • Ensure compliance with all policies and regulations, including internal standards and external government requirements.
  • Understand department processes and seek areas for efficiency improvements.
  • Stay updated on regulatory requirements for import/export, government agency requirements, export controls, and restricted goods.
  • Respond to emails and requests promptly.
  • Escalate problems to management when necessary.
