Job description

This is a fantastic opportunity to be right at the heart of things, acting as the friendly face of Thames Water when meeting our customers. Each year, we run over 500,000 checks on water samples that we collect from our treatment centres, reservoirs, and a mix of customer homes, all to make sure your tap water is of the highest quality.

What you’ll be doing as a Customer Water Quality Officer
  • You’ll be on the move a lot, travelling between different customers and sites, working as part of a lively team covering quite a large area.
  • Driving as part of the job would be highly desirable.
  • Your main job will be testing water samples in domestic homes and businesses.
  • You’ll oversee the management of your sampling records and maintenance of sampling equipment, ensuring they are kept to industry standards.
  • You might also assist with investigating supply issues or customer complaints now and again.

Your base location: Latton - Cirencester - GL7 5QF

Standard working hours: 7:30 am to 3:00 pm. The role also includes participation in a standby rota, with extended hours from 7:30 am to 5 pm and weekend working. Additional payment is provided for standby duties.

As part of the screening process, you will be required to complete a short 10–15- minute assessment that will be sent to you. Please note that this is a standard part of the process and does not rule you out from progressing with your application.

What you should bring to the role
  • We need someone who’s done a bit of driving and is confident in a medium-sized vehicle in busy areas with a high volume of traffic.
  • You will have a customer-facing experience, and you will need to be comfortable visiting domestic houses and businesses.
  • You must have a clean manual driving licence.
  • Good at planning your routes, organised and happy to set up your day and work by yourself.
  • It’s a plus if you already know a bit about the water industry, but if not, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn.
  • Good computer literacy and attention to detail, as this is a technical role that requires you to follow detailed procedures.
What’s in it for you?
  • Competitive salary up to £29,349 per annum.
  • Use of a company van for business purposes.
  • Annual Leave - 24 days holiday per year, increasing to 28 with length of service. (plus bank holidays)
  • Performance-related pay plan directly linked to company performance measures and targets.
  • Generous Pension Scheme through AON.
  • Access to lots of benefits to help you take care of you and your family’s health and wellbeing, and your finances – from annual health MOTs and access to physiotherapy and counselling, to Cycle to Work schemes, shopping vouchers and life assurance.
