Job description

Job Description for Customer Team Member at Co-op

Working pattern: Varied shifts including early mornings from 6am (store opening), afternoons, late evenings (store closing), and weekends, to be discussed at interview. Role includes working in our in-store bakery.

Full, paid training provided. You can apply for this role using your mobile device (no CV needed!). You must be aged 18 or over to be a customer team member at Co-op, as it requires working before 6am or after 10pm.

We’re looking for Customer Team Members to join our team at Co-op. When you join Co-op, you’ll get amazing benefits including 31 days holiday, a pension with up to 10% Co-op contribution, access to virtual healthcare services for you and your family, and a 30% discount on all Co-op products in our stores.

As a Customer Team Member, you’ll be part of a friendly team dedicated to helping our customers. We’ll look to you to provide them with great service on the tills and the shop floor, while also performing a wide range of other tasks around the store like re-stocking shelves and cleaning up spillages.

At Co-op, we do things differently. For over 175 years, we’ve focused on making things fairer for our members and communities, and as a colleague, we promise to take care of you. You’ll receive support for your physical, mental, and financial wellbeing, along with market-leading policies to help you through life events such as bereavement, pregnancy loss, fertility treatment, and menopause.

What you'll do
  1. Provide friendly and thoughtful service—responding to queries, championing Co-op products and Membership, working in our in-store bakery, and delivering a great shopping experience.
  2. Work together to make everyone's day better—support your store colleagues to solve problems for customers and members.
  3. Ensure the store is safe and legal—keep shelves stocked, and ensure prices, dates, and temperatures are all correct.
  4. Help introduce new products and services—make changes feel natural, sharing experiences with colleagues so everyone learns together.
  5. Support your local community—get involved in activities and events!

  • 31 days of holiday (including bank holidays, pro-rata for part-time colleagues).
  • Virtual healthcare services for you and your family, including access to GP appointments, eye care, mental health support, and nutrition and fitness consultations.
  • 24/7 employee assistance service.
  • YuLife— an app rewarding you for healthy behaviour with discounts and vouchers for your favourite brands.
  • Full, paid training and dedicated support for your personal development and career progression.
