Job description

We’re hiring a Customer Service Assistant to join our team at our Visitor Information Centre in Keswick, to deliver a friendly and enthusiastic information service alongside a great local retail offer.

The position is part time (22.2 hours/3 days per week) running until 31st October 2025 on a fixed term contract. The opening hours are 09:30-17:30 and some weekend work is expected.

The Lake District National Park Authority looks after this unique corner of England and UNESCO World Heritage Site. We encourage people to enjoy and understand its beauty and helping those who live and work here. Our staff include rangers and field workers, advisers at our visitor centres, planners and ecologists.

What’s it like to work here?
This position is based in our Visitor Information Centre in the centre of Keswick. This is a great opportunity to join a small but very friendly team and work in a busy, varied and enjoyable environment in the centre of one of the Lake District’s busiest towns.

The role
You’ll share your love of the Lake District with thousands of visitors and use your local knowledge to make their visit even more memorable.

You’ll support to the existing team in all operations of running the centre, opening and closing, welcoming up to 1,000 visitors a day, stock replenishment and ensuring all H&S processes are followed.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
• Help visitors get the most out of their visit to the Lake District National Park area by providing a high friendly and informative customer service
• Working in the visitor centre shop and ensuring our retail displays are kept orderly and eye catching for our customers
• Cash handling
• Work positively with volunteers and welcome them into the team
• Bike Hire

About you
Ideally you will have experience of working in a fast-paced environment. Previous retail and/or hospitality experience is preferable but not essential, as is good local knowledge of Keswick and the surrounding area.
