Location – Exeter Central Station

Salary - £30,473 per annum

About the job?

As an S7 at Exeter Central, you will have a multifunctional role, confidently and impartially selling the full range of tickets and services, including processing high volumes of sales, ensuring customer requirements are met and exceeded. You will ensure station activities including train dispatching and platform management are completed safely and punctually. You will manage the Gateline & sell tickets via our mobile ticketing machine, provide information and assistance to customers, and maintain the station environment to a high standard. This role primarily covers the ticket office.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Providing the highest level of customer service and being dedicated to customer needs.
  • Accurately and impartially selling the full range of products and services in a friendly, professional manner, maximizing sales opportunities.
  • Carrying out routine maintenance and cleaning of ticket machines and IT equipment.
  • Completing all accountancy and related documentation accurately.
  • Ensuring the safe and punctual departure of trains following correct dispatch procedures.
  • Ensuring the safe operation of the Gate Array, including ticket sales.
  • Providing information and assistance to customers.
  • Prioritizing safety for customers, staff, visitors, and contractors.
  • Maintaining a safe, pleasant, and clean station environment in line with our Service Quality Regime.

You'll need to be:

  • Able to deliver exceptional front-line customer service.
  • Capable of understanding customer requirements and expectations.
  • A self-starter with a positive attitude.
  • Confident in decision-making.
  • Calm yet decisive in crises.
  • Able to follow strict procedures.

Minimum requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Evidence of numerical ability.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good multitasking skills.

About the location

Exeter Central station is within walking distance of the town center and serves as the local bus interchange.

Working pattern

The role involves shift work, 7 days a week on a rolling roster, including Sundays and bank holidays. Shifts vary from 04:50 to 00:50, with a 1:3 Sunday commitment.

Additional information

Applicants will undertake an online ability test and a competency-based interview scheduled for 11th June 2025. The successful candidate must meet medical standards, including color vision, hearing tests, and a drugs and alcohol screen. A Basic DBS certificate is also required.

Training will be at our Swindon Training Centre for approximately 3 weeks, Monday to Friday, with accommodation and travel pass provided.
