A leading public sector organization is seeking a detail-oriented Finance Officer to support its financial operations. This role involves processing transactions, managing supplier records, and ensuring compliance with public sector regulations. Location: Derby, Ripley - DE5
Salary: £26,000 - £30,000 (depending on experience)
Contract: Full-Time, 6 months
Macildowie is proud to be working in partnership with a respected public sector organisation to recruit a Finance Officer. This is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented and organised finance professional to join a supportive, mission-driven team that provides a vital public service.
As a Finance Officer, you'll play a key role in supporting the organisation's financial operations across both the purchase and sales ledger, payroll deductions, credit control, and wider accounting functions. You'll be responsible for ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and in line with internal procedures, public sector financial regulations, and audit requirements.
Process purchase ledger and sales ledger transactions accurately and efficiently.
Manage supplier records, employee expenses, and payroll deductions.
Reconcile petty cash, credit card statements, and monthly income.
Support VAT and CIS compliance, year-end reporting, and audit requests.
Undertake credit control, debt management, and reporting duties.
Contribute to continuous improvement of financial systems, policies, and procedures.
Provide financial support across departments and assist in staff training.
Proven experience in a similar finance or accounts role.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Comfortable using computerised finance systems and Excel.
Knowledge of public sector financial regulations (desirable not essential).
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Able to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
