Job description

## Customer Planning TechnicianApply: Stepps, Glasgow: Full time: Posted Today: End Date: October 28, 2026 (14 days left to apply): R12492**Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.** We're looking for a Customer Planning Technician to join our Waste Services Transport Scheduling Team on a 12 month fixed term/secondment. In this role, you'll help deliver an efficient and reliable tanker service, working closely with operational teams and customers to provide an excellent customer experience and support the delivery of key operational objectives. This is an exciting opportunity to join our innovative Bioresource Team, where you'll play a key role in planning tanker services, coordinating resources and delivering an excellent customer experience. Working closely with colleagues across the business, you'll help ensure our transport operations run safely, efficiently and effectively while supporting the delivery of vital waste services for communities across Scotland. **About the Role** As a Customer Planning Technician, you'll be responsible for scheduling tanker services across a designated geographic area, ensuring work is planned efficiently and customer requirements are met. You'll work closely with operational teams who rely on transport logistics to achieve their objectives, helping to deliver a reliable and responsive service. Customer service will be at the heart of everything you do. You'll support both domestic and commercial customers, including those requiring septic tank services, providing clear communication and ensuring a positive experience throughout their journey with us. You'll also be responsible for maintaining accurate data and managing the systems that support our transport scheduling activities. Using your attention to detail and organisational skills, you'll help ensure information is up to date, workloads are effectively planned and services are delivered efficiently. This is a fast-paced role where no two days are the same, offering the opportunity to work with a wide range of colleagues and customers while making a meaningful contribution to the success of our front-line operations. **What You'll Do** You'll play a key role in ensuring a high-quality service is delivered to both internal and external customers. Working as part of a busy team, you'll plan and schedule workloads across our tanker fleet, helping to make sure resources are used effectively and customer needs are met. You'll work closely with customers, taking the time to understand their requirements, managing expectations and providing excellent service throughout their journey. You'll also build strong relationships with operational teams across the business, understanding demand requirements and coordinating activities to support an efficient and effective service. In addition, you'll coordinate contractor activities, maintain accurate records and data, and use a range of digital systems to support daily operations and performance reporting. **What You'll Need** We're looking for someone who is organised, customer-focused and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. You'll be confident planning and prioritising your workload while remaining flexible when priorities change. You'll have excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. As a positive and collaborative team player, you'll enjoy working with others to achieve shared goals and be keen to learn and develop. You'll also have strong data handling and Microsoft Excel skills, alongside confidence using a range of digital systems and software packages. Most importantly, you'll bring a proactive, reliable approach and a positive \"can-do\" attitude to everything you do. Training will be provided, so we're looking for someone with the enthusiasm, professionalism and willingness to learn needed to succeed in the role. **Looking out for you** While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance. You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community. When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working. For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance. As for some nice extras? You will participate in a company bonus scheme. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping. **The not-so-small print** This role will be a Grade 5. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £33,951. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £39,911. If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on the 27th October 2026. We operate Balanced Hybrid working at Scottish Water and we encourage people to work half their time in a Scottish Water location. Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. Screening is conducted on our behalf by a third party, and must be completed before your start date. Don’t worry - we’ll only start these checks once you’ve accepted an offer.**A few final things worth knowing...**Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out! Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask. As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months. Candidates should be aware that a valid UK driving licence is required for driving on Scottish Water business and claiming business mileage expenses. Please note, Scottish Water takes the safety, health and wellbeing of our employees, colleagues and customers very seriously and as such you may be subject to Drug & Alcohol testing in line with our policy. Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted. We’re here to help. Ask us anything at SWRecruitment@ScottishWater.co.uk
