Retail Manager

Permanent

Seaton Carew Station Lane Local Store, Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd 132 Station Lane, Hartlepool County Durham, TS25 1DW

It couldn’t be easier to develop an amazing retail management career with Sainsbury’s. Our convenience stores are perfect to help you develop all the skills you’ll need — and more.

You’ll be responsible for everything that happens in-store during your shift; and great training will give you the confidence to lead your team, plan resources effectively, and ensure customers are always delighted.

What you’ll be doing

Our purpose is driven by our passion for food: together we serve and help every customer.

You’ll run the shift during the day, managing your team’s performance and time, demonstrating a decisive, organised, and inclusive approach. Reporting into the Store Manager, you and the small team of other managers will plan in advance—including shift patterns, product availability, and busy times—to ensure essential products are available for our customers and that everything runs smoothly. At the end of each shift, you’ll give a thorough handover to the next manager.

We’ll give you the time and space you need to do all that properly. When our teams work well together, our customers notice.

Who you are

This is a great way to begin your management career in retail, or to develop your existing skills into first-class expertise. Our customers are always looking for that something extra in-store, and your ability to guide, motivate, and inspire your team will be key to achieving that.

Our structure ensures clear management presence across the full range of opening hours, so that customers and colleagues always feel able to ask for help or offer solutions when needed. You’ll be ultimately accountable for making everything as good as it can be. As a Customer and Trading Manager, we’ll even give you the opportunity to work your full-time hours across four days. We’re an award-winning, diverse employer, so you’ll nurture a team where everyone feels supported to be themselves.

How you can develop

When joining us, you will receive a clear induction and orientation, alongside a tailored training plan that you'll develop with your manager. They will support and coach you to deliver great performance while providing plenty of opportunities for growth.

There are many ways to stretch and develop your skills, so just let us know when you’re ready to take on more. Remember, you’ll be part of the Sainsbury’s team, so options are always available.

What we’ll give you

Salary will depend on your experience, store size, complexity, and location. Additionally, we offer a range of benefits for our managers, including:

  • Condensed working hours—flexibly over 4 days
  • Discount card: 10% off at Sainsbury’s, Argos, Tu, and Habitat after four weeks; increasing to 15% at Sainsbury’s on Fridays and Saturdays, and at Argos on pay days
  • Free food and hot drinks for colleagues in all stores
  • Generous holiday entitlement, maternity, and paternity leave
  • Pension scheme: employer matches 4-7.5% of contributions
  • Sainsbury’s share scheme: build up investments at discounted rates
  • Wellbeing support: emotional support, counselling, legal, and financial advice
  • Colleague networks to connect with like-minded colleagues and fulfill potential
  • Cycle to Work scheme: hire bikes and cycling equipment, saving on tax and NI
  • Special offers on gym memberships, restaurants, holidays, retail vouchers, and more
