Job summary

Colchester Institute is seeking a Curriculum Manager at Colchester Campus to lead the development and delivery of high-quality apprenticeship provision across Engineering, Welding and Fabrication, Manufacturing and Professional Construction. You will manage staff, resources and budgets to deliver excellent teaching, learning, and learner outcomes.

The role requires strategic leadership, strong industry engagement, and the ability to shape new programmes in line with employer demand and funding

Qualifications

• Significant knowledge and experience of apprenticeship funding methodologies.
• Ability to plan curriculum to maximise apprenticeship funding opportunities to best service learners and employer needs.
• Experience of managing quality systems.
• Experience working with businesses and employers to a high standard of customer care.

Responsibilities

• Provide inspirational leadership and management to the curriculum area.
• Undertake recruitment, induction, lesson observations, performance reviews, setting targets and staff development.
• Handle employee relations, discipline, absence, grievance and related activities.
• Manage the budget to ensure financial targets are met.
• Oversee quality and performance in programmes, including recruitment and retention/destination rates.
• Contribute to cross-college apprenticeships strategy and provision improvements.
• Lead development and implementation of new programmes in response to employer demand.
• Promote high expectations for students and ensure quality in teaching and learner support.
• Provide monitoring data on learner performance to senior managers and act on data-driven insights.
• Observe assessments/teaching and give feedback to improve quality.

We are seeking a Curriculum Manager to join our team. In this role you will lead the development and delivery of a high-quality, efficient and responsive apprenticeship offer, predominantly across Engineering, Welding and Fabrication, Manufacturing and Professional Construction.

You will manage staff and resources to support excellence in teaching, learning and assessment, while ensuring key College targets are achieved. Working as part of the area and wider College management team, you will collaborate with colleagues to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of the provision.

You will play a key role in developing new and growing existing apprenticeship provision across a range of levels and funding streams, ensuring the College responds effectively to the needs of learners and employers. With apprenticeship demand expected to grow significantly in these areas, you will help shape the curriculum to meet current and emerging employer skills and labour needs, building strong industry relationships and supporting the College’s contribution to economic growth across North Essex and beyond.

About the role

• To provide competent and inspirational leadership and management, to include:
• Communication and the promotion of staff, welfare and wellbeing
• Resourcing - inspire and motivate staff and undertake recruitment, induction, lesson observations, performance reviews, setting targets and taking other developmental activity as required.
• Employee Relations matters - to deal with issues of staff discipline, capability, absence, grievance, and any other employee relations activity as may be required.
• Financial Control - effective budget management in line with College procedures to ensure that the area reaches agreed financial contribution levels may be required - taking relevant and appropriate advice and seeking developmental support as necessary to carry out these activities.
• To take responsibility for quality and performance within programmes of study including the management of student recruitment and improving retention achievement and positive destination rates.
• To be part of a cross-college management group for apprenticeships and contribute to the development and improvement of apprenticeship provision.
• To lead on the development and implementation of new programmes and initiatives in line with employer demand and regional and sector need including the validation of new courses and qualifications as appropriate.
• To, at all times, promote a culture of high expectations for students in all aspects of their training and work readiness, and through effective leadership and management ensure the highest of standards in teaching, learning, assessment, and learner support are met.
• To provide monitoring data on learner performance to senior managers and to work with colleagues to regularly review data and agree timely actions.
• To observe assessments and or teaching processes and provide feedback and support for staff in order continuously improve levels of quality and performance within the areas.

Essential Experience

• Significant knowledge and experience of current practices, innovations, and funding methodologies in apprenticeship programmes.
• Evidence of the effective planning of curriculum to meet and maximise apprenticeship funding opportunities to best service learners and employer’s needs.
• Experience of managing quality systems.
• Extensive experience of working and communicating with businesses and employers to a high standard of customer care.

Essential Qualifications

• Education to Level 5 or above and/or a professional qualification in Engineering or professional construction, or equivalent.
• Minimum of Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics GCSE 4+ or C and above / CSE Level 1 / O-Level C or above / Level 2 Adult Numeracy or Literacy or equivalent
• Relevant Teacher training / completing within 3 years of employment or 3 years of the first available course.
• Assessor/Verifier Awards OR completion within 1 year of employment or 1 year of the first available course.
