Job summary

The British Museum invites applications for the Curator: Reception of Ancient Middle East and Egypt in the Middle East Department. This is a full-time (41 hours per week), hybrid role based in Bloomsbury, London, on a 3-year fixed term contract with a salary of £36,396 per annum.

You will lead research and collection documentation work, publish findings, and ensure public access to the collections through displays, digital outputs and broadcasts.

Qualifications

• Strong academic grounding in history, archaeology or reception studies relating to the Ancient Middle East and/or Egypt.
• Experience working with objects, producing publications, and collaborating on research projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead research and documentation upgrades for the Ancient Middle East and Egypt & Sudan collections.
• Deliver research projects with internal colleagues and external partners.
• Build the collection through acquisitions via donation or purchase.
• Engage with gallery planning and register the Ian Black Collection of political memorabilia.
• Make the collection publicly accessible through publications, digital platforms, displays and broadcasts.
• Represent the Museum, contribute to income-generation and support day-to-day operations.
